Can I ask, will it work with the following structure?
"An exchange of business cards." I offer to exchange business cards with a colleague.. I remove one of mine, but hold on to it for the moment.. Colleague takes out one of his.. I ask him to write or draw something on the reverse side, keeping it secret. Then colleague places his card into my card holder (we'll assume the cards are of similar size) I put the holder away in pocket I then draw something on my card.. And then reveal in some manner, perhaps asking colleague to say out loud what he drew, and then I hand over my card. -This seems a more natural interaction to exchange cards, rather than the slightly odd process of handing spec a card, asking him to draw on it, and then put it back in my holder. |

Hi Guys,
You are not using the reflection (your head is turned) McCoy that routine would be perfect. Regards Peter |

I have found that people want to see the spectator's drawing to compare the two. Asking them to reveal what they drew by just asking removes the beauty of what a drawing duplication is all about.

@Superjon I personally wouldn't use PACSTAC: (a) I don't really like arts and crafts projects and (b) I would never have a stack of business cards with a rubberband around them in my business practice, whereas a metal card case I could justify

For 30 yrs I've wanted to like mentalism. Unfortunately, I just can't get there and peek devices have been a big reason. Why would anyone write a secret message only to immediately have to give it back to the magician before the message is magically revealed. It makes absolutely no sense no matter how good the peek method is. People are not stupid. If we could really read minds, why couldn't the spectator keep the card and hide in his pocket? We know the answer. And even if the spectator doesn't know the exact method, the fact that the card has to be taken back has to immediately invoke suspicion. At that point, it becomes nothing more than a puzzle.

What are your other reasons, Eric? I know what you're saying re peeks, but nevertheless I have seen some wonderful mentalism, some of which undoubtedly used peeks. What are your other gripes? Genuinely interested, as I mess about with cups, balls and other ephemera.

The hard part about maentalisim is presenting it properly and making sure it isn't boring. Different methods for different situations are a must but yes, to have them write something down, take it and put it away then tell them what it is right away would be a puzzle and as a mentalist, I would never make it look like that.

I think the color peter used is perfect nothing suss about it that what metal business cases look like. This looks organic I could walk in a number of stores in the states and they would sell a card case like this. This what I think Mr. Nardi does best he designs things to look organic

Hi everyone!
My name is Romanos and I am the creator of "the business". First of all I need to thank Peter Nardi and the Alakazam team for helping me develop this gimmick. In my everyday life I keep my business cards in a business card holder and this is the reason I came up with this effect. I think there isn't anything more natural than carrying around such prop. It is in fact a very organic and very deceptive gimmick. If anyone has got any questions (not leading to exposure ) please feel free to ask and I ll love to reply the best I can. Kind regards, Romanos |

This isn't always a bad thing, but if you feel guilty having someone write down their thoughts then you are not suited just yet to be a mentalist ! Please don not take offence at my comment, this would apply to most magicians who want to take up mentalism. Presentation will take care of this problem, as it does with all magic and mentalism, if you can't find justification in your presentation its back to the drawing board you go !
