1. A couple of simple vanishes
2. For the Basics on coins...Brad Burt. He presents each technique and covers them in a very, very detailed manner. Plus he guarantees them. Check his site (www.magicshop.com). Look for his Private Lesson series. He has three on coins. Great detail and as I said great for the basics.
In December of '06 I was diagnosed with a very rare cancer, Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans. One in a million people worldwide are diagnosed with this type of cancer annually. Sarcomas account for 1% of all cancers. Knowledge is power!

I learned the coins across routine in Bill Tarr's book "now you see it, now you don't". I use this all the time and it can be adapted to marbles, stones, etc. The Michael Ammar series of video's and CD's is great for easy to learn coin effects. Cheers......

The 1st non gaffed routine that I learned was coins across(using 1 ahead principle). I studied winged silver from david roth's 1st tannens video. also brad burt's coin tapes are very detailed, methodical.
bobo's modern coin magic is the greatest. sponge ball routines such as the magic count,2 in hand 1 in pocket , are all great starters for cpoins as well.... oh yeah coin thru the pocket. regarding videos ,the 1st coin video I had was the david roth tannens tape. although there are advanced routines on the tape , he does not beat you over the head by telling you that. david roth clearly loves what he is doing and it shows. as far as presentation goes, one should not mimic david roth or anyone but figure out your own way....but for how good he makes the sleights look, wow! you can't go wrong learning his retention vanish or shuttle pass. definately 1st class ! the routining is worth studying as well as seeing someone model technical excellence. hope this was usefull. |

My first was an ungaffed scotch and soda. I got a live demo of it and didn't know of the wonders of gimmick coins. I worked on it at home with real coins until I could fool family and friends.
As far as Modern Coin Magic, everyone should get it. For under 10 bucks, it is one of the best values in magic. Bill |

Forgot to answer the second half of your inquirey, about easy ways to learn.
I was hanging out in Tannen's for a few years. Every Saturday and some weekdays when schedule permits. And attending the Saturday afternoon gatherings at the Caféteria. What was most crucial to my education was watching material being tested and submitted for peer reveiw. This in an atmosphere of great respect for the craft and personal acceptance. The notions of 'fooling' and 'status' were secondary to the gathering. The idea here is having the eyes on experience of seeing material done well. The explanations and details can be found later in books. The difference between what is written and what is percieved from personal experience was the crucial dimension to my education. If you can seperate your book/DVD homework type learning from your social-watching learning you can benefit from both.
...to all the coins I've dropped here

1. Probably a regular coins across using the principal that the hands are faster than the eye ;-)
2. Get Easy to Learn Coin Miracles Vol.2 from Ammar or J.B Bobo Modern Coin Magic (where I learnt all about coins!) |
