Can anyone give a review of this trick if have it. I know it's no new but I only heard about it in a BigBlind e-mail yesterday. It was talked about here on the Café a while back but not too many reviews.

I can only share a few thoughts, as I don't have a copy myself. I am good friends with David, and saw him work hard to bring this effect to market.
Just before the effect was released, I left Magicbox, who helped David release the effect, so I never got to have a good play with the finished piece. I popped in to the shop the other week, and had a good play with the finished deck, and was very impressed. Firstly, the quality of the cards are spot on. Michael could confirm where they were printed, but they handled very well. There is a very interesting thing that happens when you have a spectator sort out some face-up cards visually, and the face-down cards using "intuition". As the spectator builds up pace, the face-up cards become increasingly difficult for them to sort. They can feel the difficulty in having their brain flip between interpreting what their eyes see, and making a judgement as to what the face-down cards are. I saw David demonstrate this on a number of social occasions, to a range of different people, and we bandied around plenty of presentational ideas that make use of this demonstration of difficulty. The current advertising copy states that the magician need never touch the deck again. I know David was pursuing this avenue quite heavily before he finally felt the product was ready for release. I also saw Michael Murray perform using the same deck, whereby he did touch the cards to perform the final reveal which, even knowing the workings of David's routine, had me scratching my head. Again, Michael would be the best person to comment on whether or not his handling of this is included in the instructions. All in all, I cannot see why you would be disappointed with this purchase. I am well aware that there are a gazillion different methods of performing OOTW, some with, and some without gaffed and gimmicked decks. As has been discussed many, many times, by people far greater than I, there is always a benefit AND a sacrifice to be made when choosing one approach over another. In this instance, choosing to use David's gaffed deck allows you to perform a very clean version of OOTW, with the sacrifice being the need to utilise a gimmicked deck. I honestly think, at the very least, you will get some fantastic inspiration out of the methodology behind Mad World. I do not say this lightly or in jest, David is an absolute genius, as well as an absolute gentleman. I know he is out of contact at the minute whilst he is overseas, but if anyone has any questions they would like me to pass his way, please do not hesitate to drop me a pm or an email on info@magicblog.org and I will make sure they make their way to him. Warmest Regards, Stephen

I purchased a copy. I have been performing OOTW versions beginning with the Paul Curry orginal for over 30 years now. I am constantly looking for improvements and I liked what I saw with Mad World. The working is fairly obvious to me and it's (at least to me) important to have an explanation for the face up / face down mixture. I've got a plan for that and I love the thinking on this. It has a very clean feel which is what I strive for in all my work.

I worked with "Mad World" and must caution it requires careful spectator management and a clear reason for the up and down cards. The reactions I got were good and it seems to be a fooler. Reset is fairly easy and it's a good for table hopping in a multiphase route. I would not make this final step unless you do a deck s****h.
