I have issues also. Bend is only partial. I do NOT get the full "s" shape, and I sure don't get more than 1 or 2 attempts per ****.

As an FYI, Office Depot does not (in my area anyway), carry the proper clips. So far, I'm EXTREMELY unhappy with this item.

Office Depot wouldnt KNOW if they carried them . . . or not.
You have to go look at each package with a jewelers loop to SEE if they are the right kind. I have yet to see any markings on the paper clip packages, that TELL YOU HOW they are made. |

In the latest and greatest section there is a 19 page discussion on this trick. The last several pages discusses the correct clips to use and alternatives.
Yes, Penguin's clips provided only does a partial bend, as they feel that is all that is necessary. If you want to do a greater bend as in the demo video, you have to buy the clips as used in the video. These are large clips sold at the Dollar Store. These are cheap weaker metal clips. Read for yourself Page 14 - bottom. The owner of penguin finally reveals the source "Dollar Tree", and the reasons why he chose to use different more readily available clips. http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......tart=540 |

For a full bend you have to change the end that you are holding at the beginning to the opposite end,so that gravity and the larger sized end help complete the bend.

I posted that on Feb. 25, 2014, they have drastically edited all the postings on this topic. So it got bumped to page 13 by now.
Here is Acar's comments I was referring to: Quote:

Does anyone know what happened to the 30+ page Bently discussion area? It was there a few days ago and now it is a private forum.

Come on! Evenn if you only get a partial bend, say 90 degrees it is still a great effect. People watching starts reacting the second the clip starts bending.
I can understand the people who are angry because the clips provided doesn't bend as much as the clips used in the video, but to call the effect bad because of that is nonsense in my humble opinion. If the bend stops or slows down to a crawl when the clip is bent say 90 degrees, I take out another clip and bend it so it looks like the first one. Then I hold my clip at the bottom of the v shape between forefinger and thunb and instruct the spectator to do the same. Why? Because when I do this and my clip continues to bend (you who have the trick knows how this is acomplished),the spectator Always says "you're just squeezing it between your fingers". By giving them a clip I can tell them that it is impossible to bend the clip by squeezing and they can try it as much as they like. This way I can get a full bend and at the same time eliminating the obvious suspicion in the spectators mind. Try it. I love this trick. Mikael Johansson Sweden

It's a nice bit of business, but if you're really going to bend something, why a flimsy paperclip?
