Can anyone who owns a set of Johnson Products' cups and balls perhaps please tell me the height and weight of their Johnson cup?
I've been to JP's website, but they don't provide such details. Theirs is not as thorough in this regard as RnT2's website, which supplies all kinds of cup specifications. I'm trying to compare the Johnson cup to the RnT2 Paul Fox (2-3/4" tall, 4.75 oz) and JES Squatty 2 (2-3/4" tall, 4.5 oz) cups, in an attempt to make a final purchasing decision (which is not easy to do!). Also, will the Johnson cups accommodate three 1" balls together, in their saddle/attic space between two nested cups, without the upper cup floating or wobbling? (I assume that both the Paul Fox and the JES Squatty 2 can do so, since RnT2 recommends 1" balls in this regard.)

I'll give you a very accurate answer later this afternoon, as I will have my JP cups, calipers and an electronic scale all in the same place. I can't compare them with the PFs, but they stack very snug with 3 1" balls. No problem there at all. More later. Again, I can't compare directly, but I love my JPs.

Height of a single cup is 2-7/8". Height of three stacked is 5-3/8".
Mouth is 2-9/16" so a 2-1/2" load is the max. Takes a lacrosse ball comfortably. Three 1" balls nest very well, but three 1-1/8" balls create some float. Four 7/8" balls also nest well. I cannot give you an accurate weight, because the scale I brought home did not work. I can try again on a different scale if you like. I work in a boarding school, so I can just go into one of the science labs. However, I do know that one of my Penguin copper cups weighs 4.6 oz and a JP is noticeably heavier in the hand, so it's easily to the heavier end of the comparison you're making. Let me know if you need more accuracy on that weight, and I'll try again tomorrow or Monday. David |

I sincerely appreciate your taking the trouble to measure and share those specs for me. I think I have all I need to know now, so don't worry about the exact weight. Thanks again!

I hope I am posting this in the right section and am on topic.
I just bught a set of IMPERFECT Johnson Cups and balls and was wondering if anyone could tell me what they consider imperfect. I am hoping it is like when you buy factory seconds of clothing etc. and there is just a blemish or two. Anyone know? |

Hey Dallasfrank. Welcome to the Café. You should generally start a new thread when starting a new topic, but you are in the right forum. Not a big deal. People who have bought the imperfect Johnson Cups have been pleased. They discreibe discolorations inside the cup, or slight tool indentations on the rim. I think you will have a good worker set of cups. Congrats.

Thank You Tony.I only posted here because they were discussing Johnson Cups Specs.
I think I can work out the discolorations inside the Cup. Those are generally caused by inadequate oiling of the cutting tip.I am Ex-military and was an Ironworker for 15 years before going back to school.( I am good with a can of Brasso and know the properties of the metals)As far as indentations on the rim...lots of people get those from striking the rim with their Magic wand.I will be happy if that is the case. i would also like to thank you for steering me in the right direction as far as etiquette. I would also like to apologize to the person who started this thread. BTW....Nice website!(www.magic tony thomas.com) |

In your opinion, what is largest audience you would perform with these size cups?
30 people? 50 people? Please share your thoughts |

My only thought would "it depends". If the setting is such that everyone can see clearly, then the size is just fine. If busking, I think you'd want to work with something larger. The essential question is whether the audience can see the balls -- the real actors in the drama. Can they sit' stand close enough? Can they see over the people in front? Do the balls need to be 1" rather then 3/4"? Do the balls contrast with the table and your clothing so that they stand out? As I've read forum entries for the past year or so and tried to learn these routines myself, these are the issues I've come to understand.
Good luck. David |

Tim... David provided a great answer, really consider... "Do the balls contrast with the table and your clothing so that they stand out?"
Good luck! Bruce |
