As a physics teacher, I do a major unit on thrill rides and amusement parks. Early in my career, I remember suggesting that someone could build a roller coaster with a straight drop. Not a vertical drop like a free fall machine, but the car tilting forward and the riders are looking down as they drop. A few years later, Alton Towers in Britain premiered "Oblivion" featuring a roller coaster with just the drop I was suggesting. They lied though, and it really bothers me that the drop is not 90 degrees, but is really 89 degrees. Feh, If you can build 89 you could have built 90.

My next idea is a dark ride (A slower ride on tracks through a dark warehouse that shows you scenery.) It would be called the Tear-jerker, and would end with a blast of tear gas in the face. Riders come out crying.

Other thoughts for really bad rides?

6 Flags over Texas, the real one in Arlington, Tx., had/has a roller coaster enclosed in darkness.
No tear gas sad to say.

If my memory serves me correctly, back in the seventies Disney in Orlando had a roller coaster ride called Space Mountain, which was in the dark, with starry like lights simulating soaring through space.. But again, no tear gas.
What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about? Smile

My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums.

Tetanus Fun House - Walk through attraction with lots of sharp rusty edges and points.
Broken Glass Water Slide - Shards of broken glass flow down the slide along with the water and you!
The Gurgler - A Roller Coaster that plunges underwater for several seconds.

Space Mountain is alive and well at both American theme parks. Still no tear gas though they have done some renovations.

They used to have that at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Basically, you stood against the wall in a circular room, which spun around at high speed. Then the floor dropped out, leaving you stuck to the wall. It was called the Spin Out, but for a great deal of people, The Vominator would also have been accurate.

As far as poorly themed, there's always the Euthanasia Coaster.

The Chicken Little: You ride through a tunnel and someone runs through screaming about the horror of the ride, but nothing ever actually happens.

"The Haunted Bummer" After a 90 minute line wait you board the dark ride car and enter the darkened building, which immediately drops you off at the exit just around the corner (at the rear of the attraction so nobody else sees)
