Does anyone know if the working behind Luis De Matos'"Mirror Passage" is an original concept, or has the idea been around for a while? Copperfield did something very similar with his walking through jail bars in the alcatraz special, and presented it live on tour. Reza does an illusion virtually identical to Luis De Matos, seen at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Q_g30xDTjs , but with a steel plate. So, while I know that magicians have been walking through objects for a very long time, I have an idea which uses this method (and is not a walkaround like so many others). Anyone have any info? Thanks!

I believe Luis De Matos created this effect. The prop you see Luis performing with on YouTube was made by Billy Schmeelk of Wellington and as you guessed works exactly the same as Reza's. I'm sure Luis considers this proprietary so I would tread carefully. I'm sure Reza received his blessing before having his built...so if you're passionate about pursuing your idea I would send Luis an email.

Luis De Matos illusion is, to my knowledge, built and sold exclusively through Bill Schmeelk's Wellington Enterprises.
It's all in the reflexes.
