Dr. and the Medics version was a cover of the hit written and originally recorded by Norman Greenbaum in 1969, who himself has sometimes been called a one-hit wonder (even though he did have some other recordings that charted).
Here's the original, one of my favorites to this day: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cXrEPNvRO8 |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCYbRmSlW-M As I understand it, this is the ONLY Grateful Dead song to ever hit the top 10.

What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?
My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums. |

Remember this? One of the funnier novelty songs of the early sixties by one-hit wonders, The Devotions. It's the Doo Wop classic Rip Van Winkle:

I sure wouldn't call J Giles a one hit wonder.

I had "Purple People Eater" when it first came out. But Sheb Wooley had more than a few hits. He recorded some hysterically funny stuff as his alter-ego, Ben Colder, including a really funny version of "Hello Walls."
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tuL0giSO8f0 As Sheb Wooley he was also an actor- a semi-regular on Rawhide as well as roles in High Noon and The Outlaw Josey Wales. |
