No one mentioned that Viking Magic makes a good Duck. The one I use is the Hamilton and it serves me well. Without using any electronics I found a way to make the duck pick up the card. The Hamilton duck is one of the few that will work that way. .

Here's a redo of a duck I got years ago. It's Count Quackula, with a nod to Mike Bent. This idea was written up in Silly Billy's October, 2004 Magic Magazine column.

These ducks were made from the D Robbins India Made Ducks. The original is in my Steampunk show. There was enough interest to make up a small run of four. Each of which sold for $500.00. The price is so high because of the amount of labour and materials that go into each conversion.

Currently I have no plans to make anymore. Unless I get 4 or 5 people to pre order one. Then I could be convinced to make up some more. I already have one perspective client who's interested. So if 3 or 4 more people express an interest I might think about making up some more

I fibbed--I have one more factoid and a question-- one of my supposed Hamilton Jo Ann Ducks (old & not hallmarked) has a provision on the bottom so Jo Ann can lay an egg!

It's just a hole with a simple wire to hold the egg in place until needed, but it does seem somewhat unique.

Does anyone know if this was original to the piece or if someone added it post manufacture?

Thanks in advance for any light you are able to shine upon this weighty matter. Smile

Hi Julie!

My GWENDOLYN, which is hallmarked, has the egg laying feature.

My JoAnn, which has the rubber stamped "hallmark" up inside the duck, does not have the egg laying feature.

I suggest that you look up inside JoAnn for the rubber stamped "Hamilton". Mine is very faint.

I am trying to find the "going" price for both of my "girls", as several have PM'd me, wishing to buy it.

Good morning, Dick.

For whatever it's worth (pun intended!), I have been offered $275 for this one.
I feel she's worth more than that due to the rarity of this particular piece.

BTW> thanks for the egg laying information. Smile

I use the India duck, and it works fine. You will see me in action with it towards the end of this clip:

You are right, Julie. This one was the only one I could find at the time. Believe me, I am a fan of quality vintage props, and have a huge collection! There is a wonderful collection of vintage card ducks in The Magic Circle museum in London.

Hi guys & gals

'Just a quick note to let you know there's one of Laurie Ireland's original OTTO Card Ducks listed on the big auction site right now.

From a historical perspective it's worth your time to take a peek.

I owned one decades ago and remember how big and awkward it was to handle.

Does anyone have the Senator Crandall full routine.

I though I had the complete routine but checking I find I have only the first half - depicting which cards are needed and how to set up the deck.

It is time to make more designs now. The duck is good, but how about a different animal now? Different characters came out after Run Rabbit Run.
