What do we mean by best switch ?
If you switch the deck and no one ever notices then ... How can another switch be better ? Except of course to other magicians I use go rather than the omni , my switch is put the deck in my right pocket with my right hand. pull the go gimmicks out of the left pocket with my left hand when no ones looking. I saw it in a Tamariz lecture in Blackpool where he fooled a room of about 800 magicians with it Phil |

Farquhar's switch is very good...I saw it at a SAM convention
In New York. Giobbi's book is phenomenal. At the beggining I said: Well a switch...is a switch. When I read the book I change My mind and learn some killer stuff. Go for it !!

I understand your point and from that point of View just put the deck in your pocket on the off-beat But as a performer is a great exercise on thinking About subletys in your card magic. Again, I understand what you are saying, why bother With something that your audience is never aware Of....so I recommend the Farquhar switch. Good Luck !!

One other think worth noting about the Gobbi book is the variety of switches covering different positions (sitting, standing, holding the cards or with a table present) as well as different attire (jacket, no jacket, various trouser pockets). So not only does it get you thinking there are plenty of "straight off the page" methods to get on with!

Actually, I work with a performers pouch, much like the waiters wear. When I have them them sign the card I just drop the deck into the pouch and get the Omni deck. No one is watching !!! It's rather easy and almost embarrassing I can do it that easily. Shawn is so awesome at the switch, but in real time ant the job, it is real easy. PP

Often times us magicians over think and complicate things. I've used the Omni deck to end my ambitios card routine for around 5 or 6 years in my walk around gigs. I love farquahars switch it's brilliant. Sometimes I don't wear a jacket because here in central California it can get upwards of 110 degrees outside. My switch is nothing fancy. I have my Omni deck in my back pocket on top of my wallet. I literally dump the deck in my left front pocket and reach around and steal out the Omni deck. It's all about your presentation and misderection. I do it during the card to mouth move. I have yet to have anyone call me out or notice I have switched at all. It's one of my strongest bits I do. I alway take the simple bold routes If I can.

As stated, Farquhar's switch is a smooth way to go, done in a motivated action. I have just literally gone in my pocket and done in, as well as have "accidentally" taken out 2 sharpies and while putting the extra sharpie away with my right hand to my left inner pocket done the switch with my left hand in my left outter jacket pocket. It depends on how you choose to motivate the switch, you can be bold, but do yourself a favor and motivate the move.

If I don't do the ambitious routine to start and want to go straight into the Omni Deck, I hand the spectator the cards to shuffle, and ask them to take one out, then hand the cards back to me. I then ask them to sign it, and dump the cards and pick up the omni deck, usually from another pocket. I use two jokers and their signed card for a short ambitious, and I emphasize the fact "So, YOU shuffled these cards right?" They're like "Yes, yes I shuffled them" so when they're analysing the effect, it rules out in their head any chance of a switch. I do like the idea of doing it during the card to mouth, I think I'll try that! I've used this for 3 years so far, and not been burnt once! |

Back to SF's switch...
Why not take out the OmniPen from the left jacket pocket as a "magic wand" and set it up for the reveal while doing the dirty on the deck per SF's method? Use the OmniPen with the real Black cap for cover. In this method, you do not take any additional time having others sign the card simply to cover the DS AND your in position of a 1-2 punch with the pen changing after the deck reveal... Tommy |

The pen, not so much and lacks the WOW factor you just inflicted on the spectator. FWIW. |
