Just spoted this new book by luke jermay.
FROM THE INTRODUCTION: In this slim volume I have collected three routines utilising billets from my own performance work; drawn over a period of more than ten years. I have chosen to group these routines together in one volume at the request of many mentalists I have met during my appearances at magic conventions, workshops and masterclass events across the globe. I also took this as an opportunity to update and add to these routines since first writing them up. In the interest of variety I have broken up each of these routines with two very short essays and thoughts; you will spot these essays as they are all labelled as distractions in their titles; sometimes in these sections there is a trick; other times there is not; these essays are taken from my series of essays published in Genii Magazine several years ago and appear here unchanged. I hope they will give you a break from thinking about folded pieces of paper, index cards, centre tears, envelopes and billets in general and that they might present some interesting notion you have not considered before. Finally this volume concludes with a ‘bonus’ section; my personal premise and presentation for a popular commercially marketed prop. I hope you find something in this slim volume to add to your own performances; I sincerely; and off trend in the current mentalism mainstream, believe that a good solid understanding of billet technique is at the heart of strong, minimalist and utility focused performance tools. Billets offer the performer a great utility tool; often the tools and techniques can be transferred from casual performance to the stage with nothing more than adapted staging and blocking. 40 pages. |

I just ordered it, and received confirmation that I had paid with a confirmation number, but did not receive a way to download the product. I think I got scammed. Has anyone ordered from ementalist before?

I ordered the book this morning and had the same problem... no download link...
Have sent a message through the website as well as a direct email to Jose Prager about a download link but have not had a reply... I've also sent a message to Jermay about the situation... If the download doesn't get cleared by tomorrow I'll ask for a refund via Paypal... |

That's odd, I hope things get resolved quickly. Sounds like another great release from Jermay.

Can't currently access the peter turner billet ramble I purchased there awhile back either. Have chalked it up as a loss, but who knows.
Best of luck guys. |

I learned a long time ago not to trust anything that you can't download and is membership/web-based only... that's why I downloaded both of Pete Turner's rambles... How?... using a capture program for Firefox called NetVideoHunter... saved as an mp4 on my computer...
I can understand that eMentalism has been undergoing a new look and format... but I've been selling digital products on the net for ages (we're talking since the early 90's) and the #1 rule is to never offer anything and take money for it if it can't be immediately accessed or downloaded... and to answer customer queries as quickly as possible... If you have the product and there's a problem in downloading and someone sends you an email with sale details, attach the product or provide a direct download link if possible to a reply email... the book is only 20 PDF pages, which means it can be easily sent via email... I've bought a lot from eMentalism in the past and never had any problems, always an immmediate download... Likewise with Lybrary (and I've literally spent hundreds with Chris Washuber)... I've always had good commmunications with Jose, so I really don't know what's going on behind the scenes for him not to respond promptly... For right now the only advice I can give is hold off on buying anything there until things are worked out... when you see one of us that have already purchased say that everything is good, then make your purchase... Can someone describe the routines contained? Thanks brothers.

This is a summary of the routines.
Old Faithful =========== A spectator is invited to write the name of their oldest school friend and their phone number onto a card. A second spectator is invited to draw a picture and think of an "arty" title for it. The cards are folded and a third spectator mixes them and chooses one. The other card is destroyed. The performer correctly divines the name of the schoolfriend on the folded card but misses the phone number by one digit. TO make up for it he accurately reproduces the picture on the other card. Many Realities ============== A discussion of the "dual reality" concept, followed by an effect where each member of the audience is invited to think of three places in the world they would like to visit. Three of the audience members are selected by means of a red sticker that had been placed under their seats. They are invited to stand up. The performer calls out three countries in the world and the three confirm that these were indeed the places of which they had been thinking. Dirty secret club ================= Five audience members are chosen at random. They are invited to write their most closely guarded embarrassing secret on a card. The cards are collected by a sixth audience member who places them into an envelope and acts as custodian while the show continues. Eventually the performer invites the spectator to retrieve one of the cards and silently read the contents. After correctly stating the spectator's PIN number and internet password, the performer correctly divines the emabarrassing secret and invites the audience to work out whose it is by checking who is blushing. What do you do? =============== Another discussion piece on the subject of how mentalists perceive their art and project themselves to their audiences. Living & Dead 2013 ================== A female audience member joins the performer on stage and is invited to write down the name of a deceased celebrity. Three other audience members are invited to write the names of living celebrities on cards which are each placed in a small envelope. The onstage spectator collects the envelopes. The performer correctly identifies which envelopes contain the names of living celebrities. When handling the last envelope, containing the name of the dead celebrity, the performer instead identifies the name of someone personally known to the onstage volunteer, and comments that he did not expect to "fully cross over" in that way. Telephone Telepathy =================== Six audience members are selected as test subjects. Each is assigned a number. A seventh audience member acts as the controller. Two mobile phones are produced - each is programmed with the other's number only. One is placed on a table close to the test subject and the other is kept by the "controller." A die is rolled and, according to the number that comes up, the numbered test subject picks up the mobile phone and makes a call to the controller. This is repeated four times. The performer, who has been blindfolded throughout, correctly names the test subject each time. |
