Hello everyone! My name is Grant and I am a sleight of hand artist from Vermont, USA. I've put together a short (5ish min.) video of some of the sleights I've been working on, mostly done at the card table. I've been a little apprehensive about putting this out there but I'm trying to prefect my craft and who better to give me some helpful feedback than the magic community. I'm hoping to get some advice from my fellow practitioners. The link to my video is below. If you have a moment and feel like giving some feed back, I'd love to hear back. Thank you all!

I haven't seen much of it, but honestly: aping Daniel Madison isn't a laudable goal, and the card twirling doesn't belong here.

Wrong forum, this forum has nothing to do with magic tricks or card juggling.
There are 50+ other forums on the Magic Café in which to discuss magic, The Gambling Spot is a forum for the discussion of cheating and hustling at cards and dice. See the moderators description at the top of the forum if in doubt as to what the subject matter of any given forum is intended to be. |

Grant,
You really need to work on that push through shuffle. It's too slow and you flash through your fingers. If you haven't already, I suggest you check out Jason England's video on the move. You hesitate quite a bit when injoging the card for the false overhand shuffle. The Sybil is a bit sloppy. I know it's because Madison does it aswell and maybe it's just a matter of taste, but I don't find the text very appealing. There are great (non cheesy) free fonts available on the web. "Code Font" is one that I like to use for example. And please don't place the text all around the screen. Centered text with a decreasing scale animation looks a lot more professional in my opinion. I saw the video on the E forum. Don't know why they didn't accept my video. |

I watched your video and I saw what looks like a guy with the interest and drive to really practice this stuff... but who has gone to the wrong source.
It's time to outgrow ellusionist and search out some of the more classical and detailed sources which will give the "finer points" for some of the more basic moves you are doing. Not trying to offend ellusionist fans, but If you want to call yourself a sleight of hand "artist", I recommend you do some homework and find multiple sources for each move you study, even the simple ones. I apologize in advance if you feel you are already doing this but it is not apparent in your video. A good effort none the less. As far as where to find references for any particular move, check out Denis Behr's website. |

On your push-through, maybe don't "V" the packets so much. When you close the packets for the shuffle, the sides stick out much more than they should. The deck can be riffled with both packets side by side, no angles

I appreciate your feedback. While I did start with Ellusionist, I'm currently looking at more "classic" material to fine tune my techniques and sleights, seeking multiple sources (as you stated), etc. But again, I appreciate the feedback. It's all helpful.
