I have never met Andreu.
We live on other sides of the world. But in this modern era, distance is no barrier to communication. We have conversed by the medium of the written word for a while now. And Andreu has often told me of ideas he's working on and things he's written up. But never giving away any details. Until yesterday, when he sent me a copy of his effect Legion. Legion is a method for revealing a name that somebody is only thinking of, from a bare minimum of clues. There are no "moves" No peeks Nothing is written down As it is written this effect is targeted at English names. It could be used with other nationalities, but it would need a fair amount of one-time work. The manuscript is 39 pages, but into those 39 pages Andreu has crammed a great deal of work indeed. As in all the best effects, the method is actually fairly simple. But Andreu has had to crunch a vast amount of data to get it to a state where it is manageable for a performer. And he has done wonders with that. The context used for the effect is that of numerology, and there is enough information within the manuscript to enable a performer to give a reading on the thought of name as well as revealing it. There has been a tremendous amount of clever thinking gone into this work. It is very clearly explained. And for someone who's native language isn't English, it's a refreshingly error free and interesting read (OK I saw one typo) It can be performed on stage with ease, over the phone with even more ease, and close-up as well (with a bit of creative thinking, but nothing that should be beyond the capabilities of anyone who can read the manuscript) The fact that this, and two more of his works have been taken on board by Alakazam as Exclusives, is testament to the quality of Andreu's work. I commend Andreu for his professionally produced manuscript. The practicality of his effect. And the amount of work gone into this piece. http://www.alakazam.co.uk/index-search_r......k=Legion steve |

This looks interesting. As I have found through another effect, names being thought of - whether of relations or friends - have a potency.

Thanks Scott, nice to be back.
I have been asked in PM if this can be made to work in another language. Personally I think it is possible to make it work in another language but after re-reading the manuscript I think the amount of work necessary would make it impractical. I believe the creator is working on a Spanish version. So Spanish and English will be the two supported languages Sorry for getting your hopes up. Steve |

Stephen this looks really cool. If you're familiar with Peter Turner's billetless name guess, is there some overlap method-wise? If so, would you still purchase for additional ideas?
Thanks for the review, sounds like a good purchase. |

I think the only similarity is that they both have no need for anything to be written down.
They look different to the spectators and they work differently for the performer. Steve |

Thanks for the review Steve, it's a huge honor to receive high praise by someone who's so knowledgeable and unbiased. I also want to give a huge thank you to Peter Nardi and the Alakazam team for supporting & promoting my ideas, I have received very positive feedback which has really encouraged me to keep writing ideas as a creator of effects.
As you mentioned, the amount of work to create this manuscript has been of several months of constant refinements, improvements and understanding of the concept in order for it to work properly. Even after I thought it was done, I added extra work to make sure it would be an outstanding piece that really works for today's demanding audiences. I think Legion is a very important contribution to the Mentalism community, allow me to explain why. As a mentalist, you may be able to reveal someone's pin number, favorite color / movie, chosen playing cards, or even an intimate memory or zodiac sign and despite all of this, the name remains being the most important and personal piece of info you can reveal, as it represents their unique identity & distinction to the world. Add to this the possibility of asking - in SOME cases - zero questions regarding the letters that conform it (which is the classical approach) and this reaches a whole entire new level: it's no longer a mere 'trick' you're 'showing off' but a complete experience you're offering to your spectators. So yeah, as far as reveals being important, I believe this is one of the most powerful effects your spectators can witness. So again, I'm very grateful for the amazing words, feedback & support I've received from you and several people. I definitely think there is a lot of value in this new approach I provide and I encourage Mentalists to invest in new ideas: after all if new creators of effects (such as myself) don't get supported, then Mentalism will suffer from stagnation. What we actually look forward to do with our new releases is exactly the opposite: to contribute to its constant development and improvement. So, in a nutshell, the higher quality ideas we share, the more Mentalism will keep growing and enriching itself as one of the most beautiful arts. I definitely expect Legion to become a classic and the best, definitive way to reveal someone's name. Best regards to everyone, Andreu. |

Andreu sent me a copy to review. Well, it's a brilliant idea. It's somewhere in the field of Chunneling, but he gives you a great presentation to get the little bit of info you need. It can be done over the phone or on stage. He also has a great idea where it is used for pre-show.
What's really good about the way he structured this book is that he gives you many ways and options on how to approach the material. The man put a lot of work into this project and it shows. I'm sure once this gets out there other performers will take the idea and add further outcomes. This is a winner and I'm sure those that get it will be very happy with the purchase. By the way, he also sells an interesting Add-A-No effect that has a cool presentation. That one is called Numerical Oracle. So, in a nutshell, get this... it's good. Greg

Thanks for the unbiased opinion Greg.
I definitely like and respect your way of thinking (even more after reading very interesting works like Deep Thought). It's very satisfying to see that Legion has been worth so much effort! Best regards, Andreu. |

A little while ago I wrote an article on names and the feedback was incredible. People are genuinely interested in names and the meaning behind them and, in Legion, Andreu really taps into this.
As Steve says in his review, Andreu has put an incredible amount of work into Legion and, as I read, further ideas came to mind. Legion is certainly inspiring. In addition to being used for stage and ideal for Skype and perhaps used over the phone, I can see this being perfect for Psychic Parties and, should you be interested in this area, Legion would definitely be worth considering. |

Thanks to Steve for pointing this effect out and also to Greg Arce for his comments which led me to buy it.
I have spoken to Andreu about a few ideas with his method for divining a name, but I think the possibilities are vast. Without giving away the method; what about asking all of your audience to 'think' of a name of someone that is dear to them. Get them to work out the 'necessary'! You divine that someone in the audience is thinking of the number 28 and someone else is thinking of a very low number, maybe a 6 or 7? You are able get the first person's name after telling THEM a few characteristics about them and their name and be able to name the second person's 'thought of' name without seemingly asking any questions at all! A 'tossed out name test' without tossing anything out! More importantly, the name that you reveal will mean far more to the person than any word from a book can. Just a thought, Alan |

It's a beautiful approach for very direct mindreading, thanks for sharing it. Legion Owners will understand the power of that brilliant / epic suggestion for performing Legion. And getting all the audience involved? Super exciting to say the least! What you mention is one among a ton of ideas regarding its presentation - heck - I'm guilty of being in love with Legion: It may as well be among the best material I've written this year and I'm happy to see new ideas are starting to flourish, taking the concept to entire new levels! PS: Greg Arce sent me some days ago a killer idea: Hand out a SEALED - yes SEALED ungimmicked envelope - to predict the exact name someone is thinking of! The name is only in THEIR MINDS and they can confirm this 100%, you can ask them if they ever wrote it ANYWHERE - a question that will always receive a negative answer. I'm pretty sure this entire process can be easily done if you're smart and know how to frame the "hard part" CORRECTLY. Cheers! Andreu. |
