Hello.
I've read a routine in "The Art of Close Up Magic" with the bill tube. It seems interesting, so the question. I'd like to know if anyone use a bill tube, and what kind of bill tube do you use? Plastic or brass? Thanks, Massimo Pulidori |

Hey,
Is that the trick where a metal ball is lowered into a tube? I have a metal one. The trick looks great, but don't use it much. It came with a magic box for kids I once bought. |

The Bill Tube is a GREAT effect. I think if you buy the plastic one to see if you like it, you WILL want the brass one. I really recommend buying the brass one because it is extremely examinable and will last a lifetime. The plastic one (and I used one myself) is examinable but I always held my breath while being handled by a spectator for fear of exposure. Bottom line is to get the brass one, I think you will enjoy it a lot.
Iven J773 the Brass Tube is a locked tube that a vanished dollar bill (or anything that will fit in the tube) appears in. It is sort of like the "Penny In The Matchbox". What you discribe is different. Iven

Oh!
In our Dutch dialect, when we say a bill it's a metal ball (I believe they are called ball-bearings or something like that in English). |

I would use the Brass Lock and Key version. I don't enjoy the twisty top ones.

Ciao Massimo,
I think the old bill tube is a great effect, but if you want to use something that doesn't look like a prop but looks more than an everyday object, I would recommend the new "Bill in Marker" from Antonio Romero. That's a bill tube build in a marker (Edding Brand). Go to http://www.hocus-pocus.com to see more details. With that you get the same effect but with a normal looking object, AND the bill appear in the marker which the spectator has handled all the time! Saluti Fabio |

I must say that I do not much like bill tube effects and there's a simple reason for this: it's a prop only magicians use nowadays... and every prop supplied by the magician may potentially be gimmicked (at least the audience IMHO often thinks so).
I get huge reactions with almost any kind of "bill in lemon" - as the name suggests, a bill vanishes and reappears in a lemon (can often also be an orange, a lime, etc. depending on the kind of routine you use). |

True, spectators may cry "gimmick", but with a good Bill Tube, they would never find the secret, so why worry about what they believe? Let them look at it for themselves, and they'll destroy their own conceptions (even though they were right! Tee hee hee!!)

Thank you
At the moment I've the plastic bill tube. Just to try it. If the response will be great (and I hope it ) I'll buy the Viking brass version. ciao |

I too recommend the Brass Bill Tube, with lock and key.
Btw, you might like to pick two, to enable some extra killer effects ;-) The one I use has been manufactured by Sam Dalal's Funtime Innovations in India. http://www.electrofunmagic.com I understand their quality products are sold in the USA & Canada through D. Robbins & Co. Inc. For more details you may visit the "Dealers Guide" page at http://www.ezmagicrobbins.com/ |

With a brass one, you hand it out locked to a participant and ask them to ensure that it is locked, there is no way to open it or get into it without unlocking it. They should check that it is solid, no trap doors and that it is locked solidly. Then you unlock it, open it and begin to puch a silk into it with a pen (which allows you to do the "dirty work you need to do") and as you are doing it, you ask them to ensure you really are pushing the silk into the tube, that it really is going in, and when you cap it and lock it, that it is secured in the tube. Then you remove the silk while it is locked. Hand it out to ensure it is still locked tight, open it to show it is empty, then relock it and let them play with it all they want.
