I was watching one of my old VHS tapes and saw a trick that Patrick Page did and I thought " wow this would be great for a child/family show." It's P.P.'s version of "coins from silk"... Just to sum up the effect the audience can see the coin drop into the silk 1 by 1 as if by magic... Well they can't really see it because of the silk but the silk "moves" as if the coin was dropped and then can hear it drop aswell... what I'm looking for is a silk that has about a 4-5 inch solid colored border with a see through material in the center... I cannot use a completely see through "ish" silk but need something with a border so my audience can see the coin drop into the silk .. I hope this makes sense ... Lo

Using silk paints, you could easily put a border or design on any silk, leaving the center alone. The paints I use for silk are from Dharma Trading Company https://www.dharmatrading.com/ After the paint dries, iron the silk to set the colors permanently. Instructions come with the paints and are on the site as well.

I'd check a few thrift stores before I'd spend a lot chasing down the same exact silk. Sadly, Pat's been gone a long time.

Look at how the silk acts (as you apparently have done) and bring some coins to the thrift shop with you.

Thanks for the info... Patrick Page performs it with a reg silk... I wanted to add the "see-thru" touch....and change the ending too.

How about this - I've used it from time to time, it gets a great reaction.

Sounds like an "old lady" head covering to me. When I was a kid they called them kerchiefs.

If it is what I think you're asking about then check this link. Only here it is done with a bag, not a handkerchief.

There are other Patrick Page tricks available here:

Thanks for the links... Didn't know he had a site... I'm not looking for a gimmicked silk... Just a silk with a "see thru-ish" center... I think I'm going to get some mesh material and sew it to the center of a bandana ... I will post some pics when it's done...thanks again for ur help.

I love the effect you're talking about. I learned it from Patrick Page's 25 Super Tricks/Funny Business For Kids' Shows DVD. I added a couple of tricks to it, and gave it a finale so that the whole routine tells the story of the first magic trick I accidentally performed. It's one of my favorites. I'd love to see what you come up with for a see through silk. It's a great concept for the effect.

Some call them juggling scarfs...without the hem.

I have found them at thrift stores in as someone mentioned..."old lady scarf".

I look forward to read about what you create.

I learned it from a Pat Page lecture long ago, and my variation was to paint a white silk with red circles to make a target. The corners of the silk were also red and opaque. I also used a glass ashtray which was placed in the center of the target when the silk was being held by the corners. Instead of Pat's three coins, I used all four, but that's as much as I'll tell because I may want to write it up before I kick the bucket and I have a lot of other tricks ahead of it to release before then, too.

Pat later did a version without the bag using a handkerchief because supreme magic ripped his money bag off ! You will find it in his book "page by page"
