I'm sure these are great quality... but $100.

I will pass on this for sure...

Although, you can probably fit 100 $1 in it. And a lighter.

Well maybe the best way to see this is as a collector's piece - the creator's ultimate dream.

Tenyo did the same thing with their Elite line.

Look at Magic Wagon too...

In the grand scheme $100 isn't much for a collector looking to have the ultimate version of this concept with the creator's blessing.

Maybe PHP should make this a limited release edition?

I'm thinking of using it as a closer for Christmas shows this year. Saying something like "This entire show has been my gift to all of you and in fact magic itself is a gift... and it's only satisfaction lies in it's mystery". Something along those lines. I do like the effect very much and can see it having a place in stand up performances.

I wonder if any thought had been given to including a separate pair of boxes that would only be a one-way "normal" set for spectator examination ?

100 bucks for a gazinta box?!?! What the heck happened to Paul Harris. Sad.

Can you hand these boxes out to the spectators, without them reversing the whole routine - putting striped box back into shipping box ?

Paul Harris is helping the magic community obtain an official Lubor approved item. This is not a Paul Harris creation. Paul's out of the box thinking can still be seen in items such as Little Man. A brilliant and unique effect.

What are the general dimensions? ... I am mostly asking from the perspective of what sized prop I can put inside of it.

Thanks,
Dan.

Lets paint a picture on cost folks, just to add a little bit of sanity to this price argument.

If you take a product that sells for $ 100 dollars and break it down. 30% to the retailer ($30),30% to the distributor ($30), 40% to the producer ($ 40). that's if the producer makes and funds the manufacture himself, which can be in the tens of thousands for a 1000 stock run. Freight costs of about 25% from each transsaction. So retailer $23, distributor $23, producer $ 30 unless he shares the cost / $ 15 bucks. $ 1500 for graphic design of props and dvd cover, packaging $ 1000/1000 units, film crew and star for dvd $ 1500(?), dvd replication $ 1000/1000 units. So producer lays out about $ 5000 plus cost of goods, maybe $ 10,000(? I'M guessing on cost of props, but small run means about 2-3 times standard pricing)so all up a $ 15,000 outlay.

Then add on advertising costs by the distributor( those ads don't appear on your emails and magazines for free you know ) and pretty soon you have a $ 10 dollar item to actually manufacture that ends up costing $ 100 at retail level. The producer has the ideas and doesn't make a whole lot on the deal, for all the risk he takes on his initial outlay.

If you think the price is high though, we haven't factored in the intellectual property and the value that should be attached to that. In the cold hard world of dollars and cents we forget that bit too, don't we ? But if Lubor hadn't invented this no-one would be able to discuss the price or anything else about it. He deserves the money that ideas are worth.

So this is basically a Driebeck Die without the 3rd box kicker ending?

Got mine today. It is so cool. Beautifully made. My wife asked me why a package had come for me that said it contained two empty boxes. I unpacked it in front of her and told her exactly what it was. She looked nonplussed. Until I put the boxes back together again. The look on her face was priceless. In fact...it was worth the price of buying the product in the first place.

This will stay on a shelf, containing a deck of cards...and it will remain there until someone asks about it or asks to see a trick.

So, so very, very cool.

I love it.

$100 for this is absolutely insane! You can make one of these with cardboard for practically nothing. It is a genius design.

What you make will not even come close in quality to the items that you get here. I'll bet that your boxes will not slide in and out with gravity's force like these boxes do, and somehow I don't think they will look anywhere near as nice.

But go ahead and do it if you think you can get away with your work in a performance, which I do not think you can. Garbage in = garbage out.

Do us a favor and post pictures of your boxes after you are done so we can see it. I know that I would like to take a look at them. And if they do look good, I'd like to see you not struggle to take one box out of the other. Quite frankly, I don't think you can do it.

And did you read the posts that explain the trouble that was experienced in getting this custom manufactured and how a monetary pie is divided up?

That's the way any business works.

It's no secret that I am a HUGE PH fanboy. That being said, I would love to have one of these just to have in my house for something "spontaneous." "Hey, I got this funky package the other day... yadda yadda." I'm just a bit concerned about the price point vs materials used. Will this honestly hold up for years and years? It is "art board" afterall. I have no clue as to the workings of a gozinta box so it's a sincere question. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I got mine the other day and am very happy with it. I'm not an expert in any way regarding the materials but I would bet it will last a good while, especially if you plan to to keep it at home for use on special occasions. It will be interesting to see how long the boxes will continue to slide in and out of each other so smoothly, that's the only concern I have regarding longevity. The white box comes pre printed with the stamps and other labels and stickers are provided to place over the prints. I would have preferred a blank box for customization purposes, but this is a minor complaint. In terms of the price, it all comes down to how much you value the effect. I love it and appreciate its organic look so it was worth the money for me. As a bonus, it can be used to carry props, decks, etc.

Thrilled to finally have this available to all the lovers of Lubor's amazing paradox! As far as durability goes I have been playing with and performing with the Lubor's Gift prototype for a good 6 months and have used it in as many situations as possible. Dozens of shows later I am happy to report that I am using the same Lubor's Gift box and that mine operates perfectly and still looks like new. I have dropped mine, left it in my car overnight, had children with sticky hands dirty it up etc. The laminated nature of the art board allows the sliding to always be precise and to work with just air pressure alone as seen in the demo video, as well if it get's dirtied up at all and you choose to keep it looking brand new, the laminate nature allows you to just take a slightly damp cloth and wipe anything away from the surface of the either box. Another tip, when you receive Lubor's Gift it comes snugged into a third, slighter bigger, actual shipping box. So when I travel with it I just put my Gift Box into the actually packaging box it came in and that keeps it totally protected, this is mentioned on the dvd but wanted others to know that travelling with it in that third protective shipping box is an option as well. Hope this helps and that everyone who has scooped one is having as much fun as I am with it Smile
