Sorry for being very late to the discussion...
I get great reactions with a version based on "Leap of Faith" (Bill Malone in PH's AoA). It's so clean and allows one to focus on presentation rather than mechanics. |

Although I doubt it was ever published, Denny Haney's Thought of Cards Across was the best I ever saw. Daryl's Crossed Thoughts was a close second.
The easiest to follow was McCombical Cards Across because the two packets had contrasting backs. It is also easy to do. |

I've been quite taken with the Thought of Cards Across Plus from Alas Chis & Jones. Great cards across using any deck.

When I saw Denny Haney lecture, this was the one trick I took notes on and wrote down the instructions for as Denny said it was really good. The only place it is published is by Scott Alexander who learned it from Haney and with his permission, put it out as his Super Fly (Cards Across). It is good enough to be a feature part of a stage act as it plays to a large audience quite nicely. It is available in his Scott Alexander LIVE 3 (Penguin LIVE) for $29.95

Here's a nice simple but effective card across routine....which brings me to another question is it really important how many cards travel across ?

So is it important? Meaning that it needs to be, say 10 cards, 3 of which travel? Absolutely not. But there still are practical reasons for keeping the numbers manageable. Counting a huge group of cards is tedious, so I wouldn't suggest beginning with a full deck and having half of them travel. 10 and 3 is a good starting point, but it is only that.
It's never crowded on the extra mile....

@Ray J - I was wondering what counts and what not I also was wondering why no one mentioned Dai Vernon's Slow-Motion Four Aces (Stars of Magic/Relevations) in this case? Three Aces are caused to "leave" their packet and join the ace in the fourth packet. I consider it an absolute classic that I want to bring back from obscurity. I would count this as cards across routine as well. Maybe I'm missing something ...

I see a lot of references to Mac King's Cloak of Invisibility, where can I find this being taught? Is it taught in Hallas' book?

For close up situation, I really like stranger traveller
For stage, Superfly is incredible!! |

At one time Mac was very protective concerning his Cloak of Invisibility routine. Since it's part of his bread-n-butter show, you might want to reconsider copying his presentation.

"Las Vegas Leaper" plays to small or large audiences alike.
The spectator sells the effect to audience members seated in the periphery. Which makes it appear as though you've performed a hands-off miracle. |

Scott Alexander has great routine, so entertaining. It can be done on stage or parlour situations. For close up, classic Paul Harris's method would work well.

I always found strange travelers to be very powerful with laymen. Using so few gimmicked cards, it was also very easy to swap out with an ungimmicked set on the offbeat.

Las Vegas Leaper.
I also like Rudy Hunter's cards across from his Royal Road DVDs. I performed it at a day centre totally surrounded and people ran way.
