Here's a quick review for Flux by Roddy McGhie!
Product: Flux Released by: Full 52 Creator: Roddy McGhie Price: $30 What you get: -DVD -Stencil for 2H reveal (very nice quality here!) -Indifferent card with 2H reveal on back -“Flux gimmick” The way this is gimmicked show that the creator took a lot of care to really make this look great. Each marking seems perfectly placed to maximize the illusion. I’m not sure what was used to write “Two of Hearts” and the random lines on the cards, but it doesn’t seem like plain old marker – it looks perfect, but it also has a sort of texture on the card so you can feel the markings if you rub over the top of the card. I’m wondering what they used for this...I’d like to get some! Instruction: The DVD is simple – 2 live performances, followed by a studio performance and explanation of the basic Flux routine. The moves are all taught fairly quickly – just the basic mechanics briefly for those who haven’t seen them before, but that isn’t a bad thing as all the moves are easy anyway. Roddy does a fine job teaching it and the whole DVD is only about 15 min. If you know what’s going on in the trailer, there are no surprises here. Thoughts: I really like this. It is super commercial, and the stencil adds the opportunity to make up multiple cards that can be signed. If you want to perform repeatedly as a give away, you’d just need to add a new card to the bottom of the deck. It’s basically an instant reset. As far as getting in/out of this with a normal deck – there’s no suggestions made, but given the barebones instructions, I’d assume it is a given that you should already know what you are doing for this. You can either start with the deck ready to perform, or you could easily add/remove the necessary stuff to the deck while in play (Gambler’s cop comes immediately to mind, for example). Recommendation: If you like what you see, get it! There’s no bad surprises here, and it really does look as good as it looks on the trailer. The effect plays off very well – it’s almost like an organic WOW. I’m definitely pleased with the purchase, and I know I’ll be having a lot of fun with it. Thanks Roddy! |

Thanks for taking the time to write this review! I like the look of this and will probably be picking it up. Are there any lighting concerns?

I don't think lighting should be a concern. Even seeing Roddy using it in studio lighting it looked fantastic, and I had no problem testing it out on my wife in full sunlight conditions. This effect basically works surrounded (provided no one is directly beneath you). However, Roddy does not that prior to the final change it is probably smart to keep the deck lightly in motion just in case. Hope this helps!

2 questions...
Do you think it would be possible to make your own replacement gimmick, or does it require extreme precision? Would the illusion be seriously compromised if it didn't have all the little black markings on the gimmick? Thanks, Bill |

As far as making a replacement - I think that yes, you could make a replacement, but it would be time consuming. It might be best in that case to contact Roddy about a replacement if it is needed as it probably would be more cost effective that way. However, it is totally possible to make one. That being said, the gimmick will last as long as any other gaff card/gimmick.
As for the second, I can't say, but my first thought is that I'm sure Roddy added the marks for a reason, so it probably doesn't look as good without them. |

What is the reset for walk around?
|

Basically, you just need to get the f*rce card back into position and place the reveal card back on bottom (or, if giving away signed cards, get a new reveal card on the bottom). In other words, very fast reset.

I load on a few extra cover cards, and have worked out a short method to get everything back in place to take back off the deck to go back into a pocket so I'm instantly reset to go again. You can easily do this from group to group to group.

Gotcha - well, there's no reason you couldn't make it up for the Phoenix deck, but I would be lying if I said it wouldn't take some time to do. It wouldn't be difficult to make, but it will take some time.

I have this... and I'm very like it... but I have a same wondering with sgt grey about the pen that roddy use for marking the back of the card and the gimmick card... I love to doing a signed version when at the end of the routine you can give away the card with the reveal at the back of it... but I found that hard to make another reveal card with using sharpie marker to make a reveal at the back of the card.... it doesn't perfectly match with the gimmick... any suggestions for the perfect marker for this... ? Please for the help... thanks in advance...

After about 30-40 minutes of crafting... finally I can make the flux's gimmick using my own language ... maybe my gimmick was not as precision as roddy's gimmick but although wasn't as perfect as the original, my gimmick still work as good as the original, and I am very confident to perform it in front of an audience... the impact is just the same....
and yes, you do have to be patient in making the the gimmick and have to be extra careful when making it... So for everyone who want to make flux gimmick for different back like phonix or maybe want to cuztomize with different lnguage.... I think with extra work I believe you can do it... its not imposibble.... so I'm very very happy with this trick... I like it very much... and I can see my self doing it very often for next a couples of month or mybe a couples of years.... Thanks Roddy for making this beautiful pieces of magic.... |

LOVE this! The gimmick is super simple to use and there's no worry about it breaking down. If you love visual magic then you're going to love this!

This effect is very reminiscent of Richard Sanders "Magic Card" from his DVD set "The Richard Sanders Show". However this actually makes that effect look like real magic. I am looking to get this. You guys all make it sound like a great gaff and if the effect is as good looking as it appears to be...how can I resist?

I have been trying to get hold of this card for a long time, so I don’t no if Roddy had stoped making them. Then out of the blue I get Merlins of Wakefields, new in this week news letter in my mail, and there it is. Could not press buy quick enough.

Another great from Roddy McGhie. This is strong magic and the only limitation is repeat performances with the same audience due to the f@#ce card being the same each time. However, it's a winner and I was delighted to pick it up for a bargain price on one of the UK FB forums that offer discounted pricing.
