I got Pete's Penguin Lecture out of curiosity on all the hype.
He comes across as a decent enough guy and there were some nice subtleties and ideas in there that would improve a routine. But there really wasn't anything terribly new or clever from a mentalism perspective that I could see. Pete has probably got a lot of emotional resonance from his rather OTT preaching on how you should make the 5 minutes you spend with a spectator as meaningful as possible because that's 5 minutes they could have spent with their dying dad, or some such sugary crap. He's right though that we should be concentrating on what the spectator gets out if the trick but again this isn't anything new. Pete's a rather prominent flavour of the month at the moment and I see no reason not to wish him every success (except for those horrible tattooed fingers ...are they done to help intimidate people into being instant stooges?) but people calling him a massive contributor to mentalism are imho showing their own lack of knowledge. |

You are going to miss 11 out of twelve times and no amount of hogwash about experience and positivity swaying these odds washes. A guess is a guess. I'm rather cynical that he got a hit here as well. Surely the point about boldness would have been better explained with a miss. But no, to not weaken the lecture there was probably pre-show on the star sign piece which just goes to validate that standard mentalism techniques are better than guessing. |

I am not here to hype myself or claim to be great guys. I am a human being nothing more
My early works are currently undergoing surgery as I have drastically changed the way I wrote them. I was 18 when I wrote them effects. As for the star sign guess it genuinely was a guess.. If it failed I had an out I considered clever (no pshow) I take guesses all the time as do mediums and misses are forgotten if framed correctly...anyone who wants to debate that point just look at how many people still believe in acts like psi Sally. For the record I'm not claiming to be a medium. I have taken ridiculous guesses in the past and my hit rate is incredibly high not that that counts for anything. Anyhow, the real point is thanks for the people with the kind words sorry for the people who didn't like it (it's not for everyone) as long as everyone is well outside of this industry that's all that counts. I've published about 5% of my actual work and thinking the rest I keep for me. And as for being sociable and talking to people trust me it makes a huge difference, when you a prying into people's private lives and guessing private information at least have the curtsy to ask them about them selves and share some things about you. Just my two cents Much love x |

Keep guessing star signs and 1 out of 12 people will think you a miracle worker. Do some pre-show and 12 out of 12 will. Sorry if the tattoo comment offended, I would never comment on how someone looks physically (well except for Jay Sankey who you have to admit does look like a smug vampire egg) but thought you'd have more confidence in how you choose to look. |

I've been guessing star signs for around 30 years and my hit rate is over 80%. Far better than 1 in 12. The law of averages applies to blind guesses. There are many topics where an educated guess will massively increase your hit rate. Asking someone to think of a colour then guessing red or blue or carrot for vegetables should give you a very low hit rate based purely on the law of averages but of course we know that your hit rate is going to be pretty high.
When it comes to star signs I have found that regardless of whether people believe in astrology or not, more people than not tend to display the characteristic traits of their star signs. Anyone who knows about astrology can pick me out as a sagitarius straight away, likewise my daughter is a typical Aries and my son a typical libra, my ex wife a typical Taurus and my ex girlfriend was so Virgo it was almost painful. Become attuned to those traits and you will hit far more than the law of averages suggests. Sure you will never be 100% because some people are not true to their star signs but my experience is that more are than not. Mark |

I agree that astrology on the whole is complete and utter tosh, and yet the vast majority of people I know are pretty true to the characteristics of their star signs. Whilst I am not willing to speculate why this is (I doubt it has anything to do with the alignment of the stars at their time of birth) I have found it to be fairly consistently true and equally true of sceptics. Interestingly an incredibly high percentage of people (including people who think astrology is a complete load of tosh) are very familiar with the traits of their own star sign.

I've received my copy early last week and will say it's fantastic! No, it's not for everyone but if you want to make things look believeable and truly touching for them to remember, then this is what you want. I personally loved life equation and will be using it often, not to mention some of his thoughts and principles on methods and such. I'm not here to debate as I don't have time to sit at a computer and frankly, I really don't give a s*** I really enjoy Pete's work and tattoos and look forward to more releases in the future.

While astrology may not be something that is considered tosh people believe in it and read and follow it daily. For that reason the people that do could plausibly act the way they are depicted as they believe it is how they should act.
I'm speculating of course but who knows And I wasn't offended I was just being arsey ray All in good fun of course! On a completely separate note I got some sleep today x |

It's funny that you say typical Scorpio because I've spent time with Pete but I don't know Petes birthday. However if I was to guess Petes star sign I'd guess Scorpio. He isn't a typical Scorpio but I would base that guess on the following Scorpio traits that Pete commonly displays.
Scorpios are ambitious, determined and persistent. Scorpios are about intensity and contradictions and that describes Pete to a tee, looks like a thug yet is warm, gentle loving and giving. Scorpio's are passionate and emotional and it's this element of Petes character that makes Petes lecture so inspiring for many. Scorpios have a very penetrative mind, they are trying to delve deeper and figure things out and survey the situation. They always want to know why, where and any other possible detail they can possibly know. Scorpios like to be in control and while Pete does take chances he always has a back up plan to turn a miss his way. Whenever I have witnessed Pete in a group social situation Pete tends to be the one in control the guy who is leading things albeit subtly. Pete also displays many Libra traits so if I'm wrong about Scorpio then it would not surprise me at all if Pete is a Libra. Libras are first and foremost focused on others and how they relate to them and Petes material tends to focus on others and the way they are affected by the routine. Scorpios are very happy in their own company whilst Libra are people people, Pete is most definitely a people person and will find someone to hang out with in almost any town he finds himself in. Libra's tend to like to please everybody and hate conflict. Pete tends to diffuse conflict like a Libra but he does get ****ed off like a Scorpio. And no I'm not using the technique Pete talks about on this DVD set lol, I'd say Pete is most likely a Scorpio but failing that I would go with Libra. Having said all that I realise that when Pete comes on here and says he is a Virgo it's going to prove everything I said about people being true to their star signs wrong but hey those are the chances you take but then I never said it was 100% Mark |

I know a magician at Peter Turner filming and he said Penguin still haven't paid him for lecture as it was all pre-show.

Assuming it were all pre show (and I'm neither saying it was or wasn't as I have no clue) that would not be a valid justification for penguin not paying him as long as they are selling the lecture. Regardless of how Pete achieved the effects on the lecture as long as Penguin are generating revenue from this lecture Pete is entitled to whatever compensation was agreed on.

Firstly, it wasn't all preshow. AT ALL. Secondly, it is Penguin's best selling lecture, and it's also Penguin's highest rated mentalism product EVER. Yes, and there are plenty of products byCassidy, Osterlind, Anneman, Kenton, Banachek,.. SO if it is true, I would just like to say as a loyal customer from Penguin, I feel that it was NOT all preshow and that it elevated my performance more than any other product I have ever bought from them. |
