I agree 100%...except for the reprint part.

Magicfish, I've seen you make this statement before, but I don't understand it. Could you please expand on it a bit, as I'd like to know your thoughts behind it. Is it that you just want it limited to the original run? What if the author only wanted to make enough to ensure that they would be sold, but because of the success of the book decided to print more (because of both fulfilling demand and financial reasons)?
I'm just honestly curious, thanks. |

I would guess that magicfish is saying, "Shhh, At the Card Table has dynamite stuff in it (that I use), and I don't want a reprint because the stuff (that I use) is too good, and I don't want everyone knowing (the stuff I use)." But that's just a guess. I hope it fits here.
Will you walk into my parlour? said the Spider to the Fly,
Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy; The way into my parlour is up a winding stair, And I've a many curious things to show when you are there. Oh no, no, said the little Fly, to ask me is in vain, For who goes up your winding stair -can ne'er come down again. |

Patrick is partially right, Robert, but I certainly wouldn't begrudge any author capitalizing on public demand by doing another printing.
It is a fantastic book. If Mr. Ortiz reprints it, so be it. I just like the fact that some things arent so easily attainable. |

I was lucky enough to be sat at a table in the bar at the Session convention a few years ago when Darwin Ortiz was going trick-for-trick with Andrew Wimhurst. Unbelievable to watch both of these guys work, very polished technique and performances. Joshua Jay, Luke Jermay, Noel Qualter and Andi Gladwin joined the table over the next hour or so to watch! What an amazing time it was. Darwin was very friendly and all of the tricks he performed were so good.

Dr. Kahn (and everyone else who hasn't had the opportunity to talk with Darwin in person),
I have met him in person and can honestly say he is a very nice and generous human being. I will give him even more credit for this due to the fact that it was very late, he'd been lecturing for several hours and still took time to sit down with me to teach me some of the finer points of the bottom deal. He gave me a personal demonstration of his, helped me improve mine and signed a deck of cards for me to boot. All this after midnight and lots of energy spent lecturing to magicians for many hours. I can't say enough about his generosity with his time. |

I was doing a little magic act in Georgetown Park Mall years ago and I saw Mr. Ortiz walking toward me, and it was the first time I'd seen him, and there was nobody around to perform for, so he walked over and said, "Do you need an audience?"
I told him I did. He said, "Ok, do something." (Great, now I have to do something for Darwin Ortiz) So I did something and he stopped people and said, "Hey you should see this guy.." Within seconds I had a little crowd. Then he walked away, not waiting around for me to thank him or anything. Truly a nice person. I did get to thank him another day as he was walking by, and he said, "Oh sure! No problem!" I later learned he came to that mall every day to go to Mrs. Fields cookies. |

Great story. Darwin Ortiz is a giant of card magic, and one of the most generous and modest guys in the business.

I miss D.C. I moved to Chicago in '99, but there has been a great magic scene in D.C., with the likes of David Williamson, Scotty York, Richard Kaufman, to name a few, in addition to Darwin Ortiz.

To me Darwin Ortiz IS the TOP #1 Card Guy in the ENTIRE WORLD PERIOD. Seriously I LOVE this guy's stuff. I have his Videos and Books. My Favorite routine of his is "The Unholy Three" as the ending truly hits you between the eyes. The ones I've done of his in Psychotronic Card, Jazz Aces, Kartenkunste, and Hitchcock Aces. Oh I've done a version of his 1 handed Poker Deal, obviously I had to use 2 Hands ... lol. His Multiple Card Location too is fun. Shoot ALL he does is Great.
God Bless, Ed, (Eddini), C.H.

Season 8, Episode 7 of Penn and Teller's Fool Us that aired last week, a magician named Benjamin Barnes did the Psychotronic Card pretty much exactly as created by Darwin.
