Hosted by Alan Davies of Jonathan Creek/QI fame. Proabbly catch it on catch up or uchoob in a day or so. Lots of focus on self promotion and getting your name "out there" and how HH managed to achieve it. Not sure the exact methods are sensible today (lots of people clinging on to bridge parts over the river in cold weather etc) but interesting nonetheless. Alan Davies is clearly fascinated by the whole thing and the bit where he gets in an ice bath and holds his breath underwater clearly shows he is willing to get a bit involved. Sensibly and tactfully, no secrets are revealed.
Worth a watch and a change from the usual magic show. Apparently HH looked into eternal youth by making enquiries about having monkey testicles grafted on to his own to reverse the ageing process. Quite sad and funny in a way, but clearly a man obsessed with his craft. Bizarrely, Alan Davies may have succeeded where HH failed. He annnouces himself as forty seven years of age (programme was made 2014). I understand that Alan was in the year below me at school (though I don't recall him personally). I am fifty three. A good watch though. For USA people, Alan Davies plays a magicians assistant/designer of tricks as a detective, who uses his knowledge to solve crime. Thoroughly watchable English eccentric TV. |
