I don't know what board to post this on so I took a guess at this one. I just saw Derren Brown's Infamous and the second half is insane. Really. Anyone else seen it?

Yes. I seen it, and I took part in the "Medium" section.

As one of the on stage spectators?

Yes, as one of the stage spectators. Trust me, you see a lot up there! It was a good show. Not one of his best IMO, but good nonetheless.
I was lucky to see it twice in the same week. Robbie, one of the members here, kindly gave me a free ticket, and I got another free ticket for the Saturday night show.

I do wonder what you could see from that angle, apart from the 'surgery' I didn't think there would be much else that could be revealed. I've seen both Svengali and enigma and agree that this one wasn't his best, although the finale is pretty mind boggling

Saw the show in Southampton a couple of weeks back and was blown away.
It is BY FAR my favourite live show of his. The staging, the lighting, the sound, the showmanship... EVERYTHING! It starts with a really touching and heartfelt personal introduction / disclosure and just gets better from then on. Derren was even kind enough to sign my copy of "Absolute Magic" (which is my fave magic book of all time - yep even more than Pure Effect). A lesson in mentalism as drama / theatre - go see it if you haven't already! |

I loved it but it wasn't my favourite of his shows. I'm going to see it again next month and am really looking forward to it.

However in the past few years I've come to appreciate him for more than his showmanship, but I still think his showmanship and acting skills are the best part about him. I'd definitely pay to see him in person and he really should bring his show to the States.

I think I'm gonna buy a ticket to go to the UK and see him. Gumar is right, he's an amazing showman.

I saw it and loved it - went up on stage for the medium section and, yes, it was enlightening, not least for the innuendo in the script once we were sent back to our seats.
No criticism of the show by any means, but I loved how people talked of how pared down it was theatrically. As they wheeled the pews and the glass coffin onto the stage, I felt I couldn't entirely agree!

I think it was pared down theatrically compared to many other stage shows, and even to some of his earlier work. There were very few props used and no smoke or explosions or anything like that. The glass coffin and pews were pretty grand but I think they were used to build the subtle atmosphere rather than create an overblown spectacle. The same goes for the projections on the back wall, the use of music, the lighting (did anyone get his comment about the lighting? - When talking about influencing a guy to think of a specific word: "[the lighting] has changed now but if you saw it earlier you'd understand exactly what I mean."), and I think he strikes a perfect balance with his humour - throughout the medium section for example, when he keeps reiterating what he's doing and telling you he's not actually doing it, the accent he uses when he keeps coming back to the 10 digit number (and then uses the same accent for the grand finale, being both entertaining, funny and mind blowing all at the same time), and his nickname at school...
As an aside, I noticed the design of the box of the deck of cards he said he's had sealed in an envelope since 2012 wasn't actually in production until mid 2013 |

Redfoot, I spoke half in jest, but a lot of effort went in to working with what was often a very empty stage.
I remember beaming at the card trick. Always feel I get as much pleasure from a lot of his methods that people seem to from the effects!

Infamous is the second live show of him I came to see. For me, the fast-paced "back in the days at school" scenario at the end was disjointed from the first part, for that reason it somehow ruined the atmosphere before then. I am curious, what changes have been made since last year, regarding effects and script.

I saw the Southampton show and nearly toppled over during the hypnosis section. I would like to add that the accent routine reminded me of the brilliant Sunderland psychic Ian D Montfort. Unlike Derren, Ian has genuine occult powers and I would recommend exploring his BBC radio show and catching his live performances in the UK. |

He was joking. "Montfort" is a character created by comedian Tom Binns. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Binns |
