He was joking. "Montfort" is a character created by comedian Tom Binns. See:

Montfort: "Am I right in saying that you're looking to contact a man or possibly a lady today?" "I get the impression you were very sporty at school. In an academic sort of way". Brilliant!

Flew to London twice just to see his shows.
The medium section of this one is utterly amazing, like the part with the white "box". The minimalist atmosphere suits the style and this moment in time in his career.
A complete performer and a very down to earth man.
Whoever has not seen him live yet, just go.

I posted a comment on this thread yesterday but it disappeared. I'll try again.

I saw this show in Southend-on-Sea on Tuesday and it was absolutely brilliant. I would recommend it to anyone. DB asks everyone not to reveal what happens in the show to anyone likely to go and see it so I shall refrain from further comment.

I was there Tuesday too. Great show, my girlfriend loved the finale. Annoyingly the show didn't finish till 11pm and the last train home was at quarter past and we missed it by 2 mins.

Sorry to hear that. How did you get home?

We had driven in from Brentwood so no train troubles for us.

The finale was great fun wasn't it? I loved the impression of the cheesy northern medium too!

We went with a couple who are old friends of ours who, incredibly, had never seen Derren before. They had vaguely heard of him and one of them had been under the impression that he was American until she heard him speak. They were both bowled over by the show.

I had to get a cab home to Basildon, should have driven there particularly as it was chucking it down but I wanted to have a drink while we were out. Was worth getting wet for though.

Saw the show too in London last year. I must agree with the majority that it wasn't his best, but Derren is an amazing showman and you can't go wrong with any investment you make in seeing him. Dickheads, unite!!!

I went Wednesday night with Looch and stayed over at a B&B, which meant we could go to the Casino on the waterfront after the show, spend over a grand on the tables, impress the ladies with our charisma and be back at 7am for breakfast. Ok, in reality we had a quiet couple of hours in the Casino and were both tucked in bed by 1:30, albeit different beds Smile

Great show, though, and an improvement on the year before in terms of how polished the whole performance was, would highly recommend.

Pro tip: Get banned from as many casinos as you can for fighting and vomiting. When you put it on your publicity material, punters will assume it's for card counting shenanigans and general psychic prowess.

You shouldn't teach me these things . . . Smile
Why is it that on one side of the world a person looks at a picture of the Grand Canyon and says, "it looks so real." At the same time on the other side of the world a person looks at the Grand Canyon and says, "it looks like a picture."

The one part of it I cant fathom ,and has been buggin me for years,is this at around 38 min mark https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6ix1UmrFTI&t=2199s
I know Derren gets the info the Mother writes in the envelope so he knows the drawing is a plane ,but what is going on with his hand in the emotion box "feeling " a plane?
Without explicityly revealing the method as is rules maybe a suggestion? Hypnosis? Some prompting that was edited out? I was at the run of shows where this was filmed in Leeds but don't recall what occured.

That Darren Brown does all his shows with a combination of mirrors, stooges and camera tricks.

Sometimes its hard to know who is being genuine and who is sarcastic.
Maybe its ask a silly question get a silly answer.

Not a silly question. A deeply irritating question. People who ask how other peoples tricks are done are generally treated with contempt. Why do you think you deserve to know the secrets of Derren and his team?
Equally those who answer such questions genuinely are perceived as being an unlovable child who didn't receive enough hugs from their mother and are desperately looking for attention.

It might seem a bit harsh to you, but let me ask you this: How do you feel when your own audience or spectator asks or wants to know how what you did worked? Do you enjoy being questioned on your own secrets? I'm assuming, and maybe I'm wrong, you wouldn't like if while you are doing an effect someone in the crowd says, "Oh, he's just doing a peek" or "I looked it up on YouTube... that's an electronic die." So think of this way, the same respect you would want for your own performance is how you should treat other performers and their effects. Not being harsh, just trying to give you some perspective on how it comes across.
