Very serious question: our local club is very casually discussing hosting a mini convention.
Sounds great, but we're looking for some ideas about what to do/how to do it...obviously, a couple of lectures would be a given, but other than that...what else could we do that might be a big success??
His face isn't really this long in-person!

How about an auction or a flea market where members can swap or sell items?
Perhaps you can convince a local dealer or two to set up a table to sell their wares. Why not have a brief show in which club members (your best performers) perform? These are just a few things you can do to make your mini-convention interesting and fun. Good luck with everything! |

A venue where you can put on an evening show and sell tickets to the lay public might help in recouping costs.
A close up magic show or close up competition, a childrens magic competition/stand up competition. You certainly need a few dealers to risk attending and if you can do that I'd skip the auction which will either under run or over run but either way hit dealer sales. Food availability (you could make a little money on that) or nearby food outlets. Your club might already run its own club competitions. You could reschedule them to have them happen on the convention day. Good luck. |

Lecturers and dealers read these posts. Announce your location and time of year you might want to try this. You may find you would fit in with one of their tours. ~Jon
