A new documentary about the gentrification of the Coney Island amusement park area will be shown on PBS April 28th, 10PM in the NYC area.
Last week, I met the woman who made the film, Amy Nicholson, and if the film is half as interesting and smart as she is, it will be a winner. More info at zipperfilm.com

There are probably thousands of good reasons to knock down the old and put up the new. Coney Island is the epitome of a past its' prime run down has been of an amusement park.
I can only give one reason to leave it as is.... Nostalgia. Is nostalgia worth it? I was raised with weekend excursions to Coney Island. Riding the old rides, Nathans' original Hot Dogs, The place had and has a feeling like no where else. Coney Island can be repaired, painted, etc. but Coney Island must remain. How dare the current generation spit on nostalgia in the name of money. Let them go and enjoy the place. They will forge a new generation of Coney Island lovers.
Magic is like Science,
Both are fun if you do it right! |
