Hi, Im performing ootw a lot lastly, it's probably my favorite self-working card effect, I even got my own version now, I think my version looks really clever, but I need another method to setup in front of my spectators. Im currently doing it in the original way but I don't really like it. Is there any other way to do it ?. I haven't seen other performances for this effect so I don't really know any other way to setup right in front of my specs.
Is someone kind enough to help me out with this ?. Thanks anyway |

I recommend that you check out Harry Lorayne's "Impromptu Out of this World" (my favorite version of the OOTW effect) in his book The Classic Collection. In his version, there is no setup required, and it looks just as miraculous, in my opinion!
If you're determined to "set up" the cards on the fly, check out Mr. Lorayne's "The Great Divide" from The Classic Collection 3. |

I often use an effect which automatically sets up for OOTW.....such as Tamarizs TNT, AKA 'Neither blind nor stupid'. It is written up in Giobbis card college light series and is also on one of the Tamariz videos. Incidentally, if you know my 'Up The Ante' and have a deck set for that then you have lots of options.....you can either perform UTA straight off or you can use the same set up to perform TNT, followed by OOTW. that's one of my strategies anyway.
Have you tried 'Up The Ante' yet?? The ultimate gambling demo....a self-working wonder! See the reviews here on the cafe.

I must second the Lorayne's Impromptu out of this world. It's a pure miracle. It's clever. It's easy. Doesn't need any preparation. A pure gem.

Listen to Jeff and Merlin. It's now my go-to OOTW after years of performing Out Of This Universe (still a favorite).

The Great Divide by Harry Lorayne, an ordered cull system nod to Hamman's Chinese Shuffle(page.71) with faros to order the colors. Any fast full deck cull. Last and probably the best is a series of effects with greatly different methods that thematically lead one to an ootw conclusion.

Good suggestions, except that one has been overlooked. Check out my explanation of OUT OF THIS UNIVERSE and you'll see that I teach a way of setting the deck for that DURING a preceding effect. That's the way I've done it for - let's see - OVER FIVE DECADES. So, might be worth a look by you, no? Best - HL.

I've used a set up that Harry describes in his book close up card magic if I'm doing a routine based around how I have developed a "connection" with the audience member. I also do a routine were I show how I can control the cards that ends with out of this universe. The trick before I do it is the sloppy shuffle and use it to set up for OOTU. This way I can show how I can control the whole deck then I show that I can still control the deck even after the audience shuffles the deck up.

Indeed! Harry teaches a way of achieving the R-B separation right under the noses of the spec in the course of a great impromptu card-to-pocket effect. I really do prefer an OOTW where the dealing is entirely in the spec's hands and there is no fishy looking switchover midstream, and for me Paul Harris's Galaxy has become my favourite. But that does require the R-B division going in. The impromptu alternative is excellent, and I particularly like Michael Ammar's adaptation of Harry's principle on the ETMCM videos. However, in that case the performer does have to handle the cards a bit at the beginning to get things rolling. If possible, I prefer to get into an R-B setup, do an Ireland shuffle, and go into Galaxy. In addition, there is a variation of Galaxy called Dunn Deal where the magician achieves the separation right under the spec's nose while showing the deck mixed, but it does call for a rather bold move and I'd worry about getting caught.

Between few tricks you can accomplish Roadrunner cull ot set up red/black deck. Or you can combine with rosseta suffles, where the card are in big groups and after that you can easily separate them.

Try 'Nu way out of this world" no setup.

I say let me make sure we have all the cards and as I count, I separate the needed cards. Hope this helps!

Axel Hecklau did his version of the OOTW in his Penguin Lecture,
I must say, that was great, no indicadors card, shuffled deck in use. Need some practice in a 'move' he used in the routine, but it is great too |

Harry, I also thank you for creating "impromptu OOTW" so many years ago. That's the version I've always done, and I love the fact that you can use anybody's deck, and that the spectators can shuffle before you perform. What could be more magical?

When he states that you can use anybody's deck, he is not joking, and, the deck does not have to be a complete deck! There are many OOTW routines that are splendid, but, Lorayne's Impromptu OOTW is the only one I ever perform. |

A nice simple way to set up is via the slop shuffle trick just before you go in to OOTW
