Looks absolutely fantastic, shame I wouldn't be able to use it in the majority of venues I play :-(
By failing to prepare, we are preparing to fail.

I have an original Don Wayne floating ball. Could I use that?

Hello!
Thank you so much for your kind and generous words! The rigging I came up with works with any light weight ball. The Don Wayne ball is perfect and he still sells them. Regarding the backdrop, black is actually not the best. I talked all about that in one section of the DVD (in the company of Gaetan Bloom witch knows a lot also on that…). The brighter the background is the best for the illusion. If you guys like the mirror ball version (12 inch), there is a very limited number that we’ve built here at the studio and you can find more on that on the EMCollection website (http://essentialmagiccollection.com/the-floating-ball/the-professional-floating-ball). With the DVD (http://essentialmagiccollection.com/the-floating-ball/the-floating-ball-by-luis-de-matos) you get 20 meters of a special fiber called Dyneema and a precision gimmick necessary in our version of this classic effect. Again, thank you so much for having enjoyed this. We are very happy to share this pet project of ours with the magic fraternity. |

Thank you Luis! I will be picking this up. Dyneema is the worlds strongest fiber! There are videos showing it is stronger than steel. Excellent!

***, that has to be some of the smoothest floatin ball animations I've ever seen. It moves so smoothly.
How much practice/work is there to getting it to look that smooth? Also, am I ready right, this is €30.00? No ball, but so what, that's a fantastic price for something like this. One more question, does it work well/smoothly with not perfectly sphericl objects? Say if one wanted to float a skull, or something? Thanks Glenn

I'm really interested, but I'd like to know a little more about the type of backdrop and lighting you'd need to be able to pull this off. For those of us that perform in hotel ball rooms on portable stages with limited lighting options, would this be possible?

Luis...I gather from the information you posted that you have a section dedicated just to the lighting of the effect? That in itself, in my opinion, would be worth what you're asking for the entire project.

Super excited about this one. Luis's items are always top notch, and this one looks to be no different! We just threw the item up for presale on the MJM website, for those of you who were asking me about it.

Ok, seriously, I don't really do stage work, but I have always LOVED beautiful stage levitations. I might just have to get this. I'd the current price the final price, or is it an introductory presale price?
I used to rig up the one man stage floating ball set up, taught on one of Mike Maxwells levitation VHS's, in my parents's livingroom when I was in my early teens. It actually also had some really nice counterintuitive movements as well, with the way the ball would move away from you. However, nothing quite like this, and no where near as smooth looking.

Just saw this . My local store is selling at a quite cheap price . Considering I can get to know the ingenious secret behind this , this will be total worth the money . However it is only for pre-order still in my local shop ( store ) ...

It's things like this that make me want to get back into stage work. I've taking a long hiatus and moved to close up exclusively for 3 years.
Perhaps it's time to get back on stage and this would be the perfect excuse for some new material to be showcased. Excellent work! |

Posted: May 8, 2014 01:54 pm I wonder if there is an anchor point needed. As a lot of the time I don't have stage wings to anchor anything behind. hmmm |
