It is now available at Penguin Magic!

Ball and DVD with gimmicks, $1,250.00:

DVD and gimmicks only, $40.00:

I am definitely getting this, it has been a long desire to be able to perform this effect. The creative moves and gestures look wonderful and add so much to the performance.

Hi Luis...is this the same as Penn and teller use in their show?

Penn and Teller, well actually Teller recreated the David P. Abbott Floating Ball. Source material is impossible to obtain as the book is out of print and 2nd hand copies are in the thousands of dollars. I don't think back in the old days they were as graceful as Luis De Matos. Additionally, if it was the same, then it would be coping and not Luis De Matos' creation, now wouldn't it.

I wonder if there is an anchor point needed. As a lot of the time I don't have stage wings to anchor anything behind. hmmm

Did you notice the box on stage, I will go out on a limb and say, that is important.

Maybe Luis De Matos can confirm, but it looks to me from the demo video, there may be more then one way to setup given on the DVD.

Not exactly true!
Teller used David P. Abbott Floating Ball as an inspiration and came up with his own moves & routine.
It's not in print and it's not for sale...

The David Abbott routine was the inspiration for the Okito / Fu Manchu routine and not at all dissimilar.

What all these performances and routines have in common is not some 'new' secret or technology...but rather incredibly dedicated performers who pay attention to the details and are not afraid of endless rehearsal.

Teller's routine is not a floating ball, it is a wonderful obedient ball routine, with his own moves worked out over a process of several years of almost nightly rehearsal sessions. There were many of us that attended those sessions and worked on it with Teller.

Just got notification from Penguin Magic my DVD has been shipped. It will be a week or so by Penguin's USPS free shipping. Can't wait to see this awesome looking Floating Ball. Can't imagine what the gimmick could be, but hope it is not a letdown like a pin or pulley. It has to be small to be in with the DVD.

I have a box with lid (Wal-Mart or Office Depot) sell suitable square cases, just incase that is needed and several balls that should work. I have the music and we will see if the artistry is explained as well as in the demo video.

We had this arrive the other day http://www.saturnmagic.co.uk/new-magic/t......tos.html

The setup is quite simple as is the operation of everything.

You will need to be on stage to do this so it won't be for everyone but it is a very nice effect.

You get some supplies and a gimmick but will need to buy some extra items to get this set up depending on the venue you will do this in, plus you need to make or buy a ball that is suitable.

Received mine in two days! I am already working one a rigging for outside in the trees with a gathering of moss as a ball while my wife plays harp.

So being on an open platform without the benefit of stage wings probably won't work for me. Does the weight of the ball matter? Could I use a balloon for this?

You would really want something with a bit more weight than a balloon, the DVD does explain the best sort or types of ball to use.

This can work without wings it would depend on how you have the stage is set up etc, lighting and background is very important.

Question for those who have received this; is the beautifully fluid movement we see in the demo a result os the set-up/gimmick/modus operandi, or more so Luis' skill and practise?

The smooth movement (and the price) would be the biggest interest for me in this, and, while I have NO problem with putting in the work, I would love to know how much of that is Luis/the performer himself, and how much is the apperatus.

Thanks
GW
It's amazing, people will criticize you for "biting the hand that feeds you," while they're busy praising the hand that beats them.

The system is very practical, requires trial, like everything, but worth it!

The book is still available, at least last time I looked. You can obtain a copy at the gift shop at the Penn and Teller Theatre in the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. I've been told that they won't ship the volume so you have to go there in person to pick it up. But at least that way you can have Teller sign it after the show.

I love this effect and have been practicing it for 4 months. But now I'm desperate for PFB Thread: 8 strand Dyneema fibre. I've tried to contact Luis De Matos through Essential Magic Collection with no success. I've contacted Atlantic Braids, the company he mentions on the DVD, but they do not have this in stock and will need to make a minimum run of 10,000 feet. I've tried Tuf-Line whom Atlantic Braids recommended, also with no success.
I have two shows coming up next week and I'm almost out of thread. Does anyone have a supply they can help me with? I love Luis De Matos' Professional Floating Ball which I purchased and his wonderful setup, but getting supplies is killing me. Any help would be appreciated.
Peace, Fr. Leo

Have you tried purchasing from the EMC Store? http://essentialmagiccollection.com/the-......b-thread

Not sure how long it would take, so may not get there in time for next weeks shows - but possibly an option!

What are you getting with the "pro ball" that makes it €1000 more?
The dvd, rigging and 2 extra thread would come to €255. Is that all I need if I supply my own ball? Not too interested in using the disco ball...and would want to use my own box anyway.

Is there anything else included with the pro version that I would need?
