I love to perform "Fingertip Intuition" by Lennart Green. It looks a bit like Out of this world, because there is the separation between black and red cards, done by the performer and the spectator at the same time. I think what I like the most is the ending, that is really clean, since you just turn your cards over and the spectator turn his/her cards over him/herself. It gives me time to watch the surprise face

In general, the classics (ACAAN, Ace Assembly, Ambitious Card, Homing Card, Oil and Water, Out of This World, Transposition, Triumph, etc.) are all high impact, if performed correctly. If they weren't high impact, they probably wouldn't be considered classics. ;-) Moreover, they've seeded countless variants, many of which elevate their originals to even higher levels.
Some of my favorite high-impact sequences:
Some of my favorite high-impact performances:
For what it's worth, "Ricky Jay and His 52 Assistants" hooked me on magic, and, Triumph (Vernon), Twisting the Aces (Vernon), and Re-Set (Harris) were the sequences that reeled me in. Andrew |

The hands-down strongest card effect I've been doing lately is my own version of the commercial effect called "Envy-lope." The visual shock when the deck instantly transforms into the small white envelope you placed in your pocket is incredibly powerful. But I developed an even stronger presentation than the one in the demo and now it really knocks their socks off. Even my wife, who has seen me do many other strong effects, agrees that one is in a class by itself.
Magically yours,

Wow, Through and Through is nice. Love the reactions.
I'm not a professional by a long shot, but I've been performing a lot for clients and talent that I work with over the last year. I find that the Invisible Deck (with some popular choices pre-loaded in your shirt pockets) blows away almost everyone. When performing Triumph (classic Dai Vernon) and an OOTW (I perform a mixture of the Derren Brown and Paul Harris versions), I also get great reactions. I sometimes get the 'no f-ing way' reaction when ending with the 'pop up' move at the end of a AC routine. |

Two card monte - simple and direct
Angle Z - friends and relatives talk about this one all the time A basic Ambitious card (like Blaine) with card to mouth and then their signed card to my shoe (using the Extractor) I've also recently started doing Christian Englbom's great 3 card monte from Que Raro that has gotten great reactions |

Mr Lorayne's Halo Aces.
I present it differently from how I first learned it. I use it part way through a pseudo gambling demonstration, on the off beat, when no one is expecting it. It never fails to shock. I then go into the stacking demo which I first learned from Vernon's Poker Deal using a presentational idea adapted from Mr Bannon. Mr Lorayne's work is a constant source of inspiration. I don't tend to have a fixed favourite effect that stays permanently with me. I am an amateur who tends to perform infrequently and mostly to the same audience at work, home or in the pub. If you want to get strong reactions, not only do you have to consider the effect, but also the place you are performing and the freedom that the environment gives for large or extravagant outbursts. For further details please compare and contrast, I perform the same general effect but in two vastly different environments (one is a park in the UK and one is a day time bar in Mallorca)

Paperclipped: Sankey 7. Emotional Reaction (Vernon) - since you can hold cards close to chest try using UCCU with this. Let your imagination go! Hello Jason,
For me, the strongest reaction I get from a lay audience with a pack of cards is when I perform Cards Across. I do a simple one-way version, meaning I don't make the cards come back. When they count the cards out for a second time and find that they now have more cards than what they originally counted, it fries! I think the fact that the cards were in their 'personal space' during the majority of the routine makes it such a strong trick. Roberto

When I read Best for Last I thought that if you performed 52 Pick Up using your idea from Best for Last you could have the deck set with a couple of shuffles and take some shuffles out of the routine. Just an idea. PM if I didn't explain it right. Anyway thanks for the great effects. Arcane Control went right into the repertoire. Chris |

This is really a subjective thing. What suits one performer does not necessarily suit another. A lot depends on the personality and showmanship of the individual magician. For example, a poor magician might present a fantastic trick but get tepid reaction whereas a superb magician might perform a weak item but get a tremendous reception.
Having said that I have two tricks which get fantastic reaction but in a different way. MacDonalds Aces gets incredible reaction and probably my strongest trick. But the reaction is instant. My other strong item is a delayed reaction and the effect is so strong that people will mention it to me for months and in some cases years afterwards and that is, what to me is the greatest card trick of all time, Paul Curry's incredible Out of this World. When I do it, it is more of a stunned silence. No screams or yells. Just plain stunned astonishment and in some cases stunned silence until the effect sinks in. It is something I save until the very last minute after everyone has been knocked out by the other stuff and then I go in for the kill. They talk about this and talk about it and talk about it. It is a solid reputation maker and will build your reputation. Incidentally I use the original long winded version. I don't favour the short cuts such as the UF Grant thing although I do agree it has it's place. |

A two card transposition seems to get the best reactions for me.
