Hi guys
I'm really new to magic but I guess it just fascinated me over night. I saw this animation where a coin jumps from finger to finger and back again. I tried it and it fell down immediately for about 50 times. Now I'm able to do it, and the more I do this the more I'm starting to like magic. So I have a few questions: I'm interested in coin magic/levitation. I already did the balducci levitation, but still need to practice a bit to get the angle right. I just bought the coin bite; when I saw this the first time I burst out laughing. So, to the questions...how much do you need to practice to be good at it? Let's say one trick, 10 hours? I'm not planning on like doing a whole show, just some tricks of like 5 or 6 routines. What do you recommend? I also wanna buy the cigarrete thru coin. It looks really cool and it's always fun to fool people around. Help greatly appreciated. Bad-Boy

There really isn't a set amount of time to get good at a trick. Everyone learns at a different rate and every trick takes different skills. Even after you "master" a move, you should still continue to practice.

Like Daniel says, you can't quantify the time because people are different.
BUT, if you need an answer, I'd start with your own. Practice for 10 hours. If that doesn't work, go for ten more and so on. A good indication that you've 'nailed it' is stop practicing, wait three days and do the trick while reciting the Gettysburg Address. If it remains flawless, you've nailed it (the trick, not the address). |

Does an athlete stop his training, when he's the best at a discipline ?
Does an artist stop playing, when he's the number one on all the lists ? Does a marksman stop shooting, when he can hit the bullseye ? The Answer : No, off course not. If you want to be good at something, there's always someone, who wants to be better than you. so ... What I'm trying to say is ... I'm thinking in general and not about just one trick. Even the best of the best keep practicing their "art". I think this is the same in magic. |

Magic is supposed to be just as playing Golf,
If you get "hooked" you don't feel it like practice anymore, you feel it like it's the only thing you want to do (don't tell your wife though) Jack.
