An Englishman in New York.
I suspect if you're looking for any sort of unanimity, you'd be better off asking the same question about a Police song.
Tá sé ach cleas má dhéanann tú sé cuma mhaith ar cheann.

Sorry, I don't know any of his work after the Police. (Although! I did hear he was a hit in the WWF.)
Message in a Bottle is what came to mind, but he wasn't solo. |

Sorry, not a Sting fan. Didn't he sing Little Drummer Boy with Bing Crosby?
...what if I could read your mind?

As a big Sting fan myself, these replies are enlighting. I didn't specify solo or The Police on purpose and find it interesting that the distinction has come up so many times (Sting wrote all of The Police's hits btw!) I'll be using this info for a book test and am interested in your replies. Thanks for taking the time to answer and please keep them coming.
DWRackley -- Wrong Sting! You're thinking of David Bowie! ;-) |

Brand New Day was the first one in my mind.
Then again, I suppose you asked for a "popular" Sting song...!

You're right C.J., I did ask for a "popular" Sting song! Nice! ;-) And great job digging up that Family Guy clip -- I always thought it was hilarious!

Fred,
Since Sting went on to a solo career after the Police calling himself "Sting" and you asked for a "Sting song" , it is natural to infer that you are looking for a song from his solo career. Tony |

You're right Tony. I didn't expect the solo vs. The Police distinction to be such a stumbling block. To me, his catalog includes The Police, but to most people there's a clear distinction, which is good to know. I may have to change my script accordingly. Thanks for the input.

For what it's worth, I actually used to do a routine that featured this very 'thing,' and had done my own extensive research.
When you factor in The Police, "Roxanne" is the clear winner. It's not even close. Even Sting acknowledges this. e |
