Is there a really good soft chop ball? I bought some cheap yellow sponge balls. They land in the cup quietly, but they are so out of balance that they do weird wobbly things when you lift the cup. Any suggestions in the 1 inch range?

I suppose you could take a staple, that has been crimped by a stapler, and insert it into the center of the sponge ball. It should minimize the wobble, if it's in the center. I use a similar technique with a paper clip and a foam practice golf ball.

The balls that work with the Chop Cups that we make at 3shells.com are a soft rubber, with fine metal blended all the way through the ball.
This brings many added features over the standard chop cup balls. The ball is matched with a metal to magnet connection on any area of the ball. You will find you can work the cups and balls in a more natural way. No more slamming the cups on the surface to dislodge the ball with a magnet to magnet connection. The softness of the balls brings the feature of being able to do more sleights that can not be done with the normal hard balls. You can even back finger clip these balls. The softness of the ball gives you the option to even steal and load a ball from the cup like done with the shell game. There is also never any sound from this type ball. All the balls can work together without them attaching to one another when using more than one gimmick ball. We find that if using a magnet to metal connection with a chop cup, it works the best if there is metal all around the ball, not only having metal on one spot of the ball. We will have many new chop cups coming out soon that use these type chop balls. These new cups will have more working features than any cups ever made We make this type ball now up to 3/4 in many colors.

These rubber metal blended balls are like the sweet peas that we also use for the shell game, but larger.
I am working on opening a new website having chop cups; double chop cup sets, triple chop cup sets and accessories. They can work as combo sets or just regular cups & balls by using nonmetal balls This site will be www.chopcups.com. The chop cups will have some unique features over most other cups. If you want to try the metal blended balls with your cup, you can order the jumbo sweet peas and email me if you want a different color or size. The problem that you could have is the magnet in your cup might not have the matching strength to work well and most likely this will be the case. These balls are designed to work with the cups I pair them with. The magnet in a chop cup can be different from one cup too another cup. I would not recommend this to work with your chop cup without pairing them. Most likely it will be a weaker magnet than what I pair the balls too. This is because when using a magnet to magnet connection there is a stronger force, so you could have a weaker magnet or a farther distance between the connections of the ball. This is why you see most chop cups having to be slammed on the table to break the connection of the two magnets. This is not the case with the magnet having a connection on any area of the metal blended ball. These balls work great with the three chop cup sets that we are coming out with. They work with all gimmick metal balls. The balls will not attach to one another and appear as normal balls. Here is an example: You can have three balls on top of a chop cup, nest another chop cup and only pick up one ball of your choice. Then lift up the bottom cup to show the ball went through. This can be done with all three balls one at a time. You can even nest a chop cup over another chop cup with a ball in the saddle and not have it pick up the ball, if you like. These are not like the Stunner chop cup sets. I like a chop cup where I have full control of the ball. Like if I am doing the above, when I lift the cup up off the other chop cup that just took one of the balls, I can give a little natural shake to show the cup is empty and the ball will break loose and roll into a finger clip in turning the cup up to show it empty. Then let the finger clip ball roll back in the cup before sitting it down to dislodge it for the second ball penetration in being one ahead. This cannot be done with a magnet to magnet connection in a natural way. The magnet to magnet connection is too strong to look natural. These chop cups and balls where designed like our shells, having full control of the ball.

I make chop cup balls out of felt that are quite soft. That type isn't that popular but it does the trick for being a "soft" ball.
