Just think you could leave the world a better place than you found it for the family.

Good post Tommy.
The concept is wonderful - to make the world a better place. Perhaps those not wanting to go the route of non profit can volunteer for one, or perhaps join a group for cleaning up a beach or park, help out at the food bank or grow a garden to contribute. Visit an elderly neighbor and offer to go shopping or cut their lawn. Volunteer at a community center or a school to help out kids. There are so many opportunities for people to do their part to make the world a better place. Be kind to one another and treat everyone as you would like to be treated. Remember that no individual is above or below you and be respectful. I love the book "Everything I learned in Kindergarten", giving examples like sharing, play well with others...ect..holds true even as we grow up. My favorite poem in the world is "IF" by Rudyard Kipling - for me those are words to life by. |

The older one gets the more one realizes why people don't live longer. Change does occur, but is it for the "better".

Depends on your attitude concerning the matter, largely, from what I can see, Dennis. Flexibility and an open mind. You can bring yourself into changing times and continue to embrace life, if you want to.

Yes, I have always wanted to make the world a better place, even as a kid.
I KNOW I will have left the world better than I found it. It is very easy for me to tell that. So far I have been a high school teacher for 23 years. I have no plan to quit anytime soon. I know that many students have slipped though my fingers unchanged, and possibly not gotten much benefit from me. But, a few have. Some very strongly. This I know. How? Well they have told me, or I can see it for myself. Two days ago one of my former students fired a home built rocket in an attempt to set a world height record. I know I reached him. I know I helped make is world turn a little smoother. Would he have been a success without me? Probably. But I was still happy to help and proud of the result.
Magic is like Science,
Both are fun if you do it right! |

I am sure rocket scientists will help us see the light one day.
Any more bright ideas? :)

It's not an idealistic world we live in and the more you try to change things, the more they stay the same. I think it's better to take care of yourself, your family, make a few friends, try to get along with people when possible and be happy. That's about all you can do and keep an eye out for danger and stay away from bad situations too. The world is a dangerous place and so you have to stay vigalent and watch out for trouble. You can't save the world, but you can take care of yourself, family and friends when possible and be as happy as you can under any given circumstances. But somebody who is truly happy knows, he can't be happy all the time.

Of course I'd like to leave the world a better place than I found it. Past generations have done it-just ask yourself if you'd be better off working in a sweatshop alongside 12 year old children for twelve hours a day. Ask yourself if penicillin made the world better. Think of virtually all of the advances made over the centuries that have made the world a better place.
And at a minimum, we could STOP doing things that are guaranteed to leave the world worse than we found it. The only way to pay our debt to those who went before is by meeting our obligation to generations yet to come. |

There is a good and bad side to everything, not to mention the edge and the inside. The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

If it wasn't for writers, intellectual, homosexual thieves like Jean Genet, who is credited with being the first to bring gay sex and prostitution in the ambit of literature, the world would be a far less colourful place. So I am setting up the writers, intellectual, homosexual thieves foundation before I go, among other things.

While my answer was sugary sweet, I liked the fact that yours was a tad twisted and YES!!! I agree!!! The world would be a boring place without the likes of artist and writers who were/are not afraid of what the mainstream population thought/thinks of them. I admire their tenacity and perseverance despite the odds against them - they are role models to those who are not afraid to be themselves. I admire people like that.

Well, I guess one way to make the world a better place is to start a business and make money doing something you love to do! You help the economy grow and help make others rich in addition to helping yourself. Seem like a win for the business owner as well as the rest of the economy. Helps fight poverty by contributing to economic growth and the creation of jobs for others (either directly or indirectly) and you help to generate badly needed tax revenue for local, state and federal government. Seems this would help to make the world a better place.
