Hey guys, did anyone watch Britain's got talent last night ? Absoloutley amazing performance by Darcy Oake yet again ! This young man's got the public's eye on him ! He performed a version of the De'Kolta Chair.....perhaps the BEST version I have ever seen of it. What do you guys think about it ? I'm not an expert in platforms or bases of this illusion, but I think this must have been the thinnest version I saw for that illusion.
The reappearance was PURE INGENIOUSNESS ! One of the most amazing and creative things I have ever seen in Magic. Since appearing behind the audience, and seated in the audience, and behind the stage have all been over done by many Magicians (the best one I found regarding that would be Copperfield's Portal Reappearence ABOVE a platform above the audience) but reappearing as the camera man was just 5 stars for me ! Just out of curiosity, this version of the De'Kolta chair is available in the market, correct ? The illusion nonetheless fooled the heck out of me, and I'm guessing the camera man switch thing must've been a concept in theatrical stage magic, which I would love to read about, let me know what ya'll think ! |

Freak: Lance Burton used to do a switch with another cast member on stage (after a sword fight with him). So the concept isn't new...just used in a different manner. I agree with you that Oake NAILED this one.

Obviously, this is not the traditional DeKolta Chair illusion, but a combination of methods. I don't believe this version is available, but I don't know everything that is being offered by illusion builders here in America or in the U.K. currently. I have never seen written the old exchange idea anywhere and most illusions do not come with presentation methods. That is usually left up to the performer.
This was more like Blackstone's and the Doug Henning's skits, then anything like Lance Burton's fabulous sword fight skit. This was not the same methodology, in my opinion. I venture to say, that he did not have this illusion shipped across the Atlantic, but used local magician's production company illusions. The same goes for the birds, as there is a several month quarantine for animals to go overseas. |

The illusion was built by Bill Smith and enhanced by Mike Michaels....both from the USA.

Exactly, Bill. Like I already stated...the concept isn't new...it was just used in a new way.

Maybe it's a magicians time on BGT.
Darcy has got the requisites I.e. skill & personality..It's the personality that sells it though as the magic is quite old school...Great bird productions though. |

I'm guessing Mr. Oake has been in the UK for some time in preparation for this act. The parakeet walking into its cage alone testifies to the fact that he's been working with it for a while, and as noted above, animals coming into the UK go through a very long quarantine process, to it's unlikely he brought them with him from Canada. The illusions (and some of the stage props), as noted, were (at the least the two I'm familiar with) built in the US, and shipped to the UK. So, Oake is doing something right, just paying for the transfer of this equipment had to be very expensive via ship or air.
It's equally obvious that a LOT of work went into his act; he is deserving of the accolades coming his way. While I'm not a huge fan of Simon Cowell, I think variety arts performers everywhere should acknowledge a debt of gratitude to him for making this venue available around the globe. |

This performance really impressed me especially with the timing of the cameraman and the smooth execution overall. I got goosebumps! He took the dekolta chair to another level.

I just watched the performance again and noticed he also made the stairs that he used to get onto the chair disappear! By the end of the trick it's nowhere to be seen and I don't see any assistants wheeling it off either.
