I would like to know if anyone would email me an original copy of the Professor Nightmare instructions. I long traded off my copy, and would like to have the original patter that was published for the trick. I have contacted Phil Wallmarth whom last I heard held the rights to the effect, but he has not returned my inquires, even though he is suppose to be marketing this original product. Thanks for your time.

I invested one dollar with Gene Gordon in 1959 (!) for Bob Carver;s PN --slthough Gene didn't know it was Carver's idea. I seem to recall that Gene bought the rights from a guy that Carver had shown the thing to. I played with it for about eleven years before I put it in the show! I'll be out at my storage facility this weekend. I'll check the back up instruction file. I may have a copy of Gene's instructions. If so, I'll PM you for an address. O

It is about a mathematical problem. For the person that can supply me with original instructions, I will send you the "addition" that was sold separately. It is an extended routine for this classic rope trick. These are lost instructions that I recently discovered. |

I remember that patter! I mean I don't remember it. I don't remember what I had for breakfast. BUT I remember seeing that patter around the same year that Dick Oslund acquired it...actually a few years before that because by 1959 I was a "folksinger!" I was "beyond" magic until 1966. But I digress. Constantly.
Gene Gordon's Magic Shop was on Franklin Street only a couple of blocks away from my father's business. I was there often. I mean at the magic shop. Gene as you know had an arrangement with "Hen" Fetsch, whose "1-2-1 Rope Trick" was kind of a precursor to the PN. I think. Or maybe they were created about the same time. Do I have any idea what I'm talking about? |

When I came across the PN effect in the 90's I immediately thought of Grant's rope effect in which the length of ropes held by spectators changed lengths.
Perhaps it had an influence. Not what you are looking for, of course -- just prompted by the comments of origin.

I find it interesting that there are no members who purchased the Professor Nightmare from Gene Gordon Magic Den in the 1960's. It was just as good back then as it is today.

My dad was an amateur magician in the 40's, and I recently acquired his collection of texts, instructions and magazines. I know he handled rope a bit, although he had pretty much put everything in the attic by the time I was born, so I don't recall ever seeing PN at home. I'm out of state until Wednesday, but I'll see if there's anything in his collection when I return home.
