Hey guys!
How long did it take for you guys to finish all 5 volumes of Card College...or if you bought them separately.how long did it take you to finish each book?
and do you guys think that after finishing those 5 volumes of card college, is it still necessary to buy Daryl's Encyclopedia of Sleights, as well as Jeff McBride's Art of Card Manipulation DVDs??
assuming that one is able to perform all the flourishes and sleights properly which are taught in Card College...will he/she learn much from those 2 DVDs?
thanks

This depends on your ability.I read RRTCM first(actually when I was 8yrs old),so I knew a lot of the sleights already.Volume 1 and 2 took me just a week to master these.Because the advice given in these books are above these of RRTCM,I would recommend the CC set to anyone who loves card magic.
Having accompanying videos always help. You can see how the sleights are performed and is sometimes more helpful than trying to decipher what the author means.

I suppose it is a matter of dedication to practice. I would assume it is possible to "master" every move in the five books in 2 years if you really set your mind to it. Maybe less time, maybe a heck of a lot more. Don't be in any rush. Enjoy your study of them, and don't be discouraged if you don't progress as quickly as you thought you would.

Volume3 & 4 took slightly longer(about 3-4 months).I wouldn't say I have mastered everything in these great books, only the the most essential. Also concerning Daryl's video,I think all magicians should have this video-it's brilliant.
Good Luck and enjoy

I always refer back to card college, even on the sleights that I already perform. I can usually find really good insight from different sources. That said, I think if you purchase Daryl's video set, you will learn a lot. I also have Allen Akerman's card control videos...even though it deals with some similar sleights from Daryl's videos, there is a wealth of knowledge to gain from both of their teachings. I haven't seen too much card manipulation in the card college series, so Jeff McBrides tapes should be lots of benefit to you too.

I finished those books in 3 days, nothing special, move along with your life and nothing to see here.

I'm working through the books now, the first took three months (but I still go back to it fairly regularly and my practice routine is mainly moves from that volume). The second I have started on, I've read it and am now starting on the moves, I'm expecting three months again.

So Daryl's Encyclopedia of Sleights is sort of only for reference if you can't picture what is being written in Card College? I'm trying to learn with a minimum amount of budget, especially with my local $ currency increasing!...so do you guys think Card college is Good enough?

Yes Daryl's videos are a good reference, especially if its hard to visualize a certain sleight...but there are many things in card college that are not covered in the videos, as well as some things in the videos that aren't in the books.
Since you are trying to spend a minimum amount of money, stay with books. If you are asking if card college is enough on its own (don't need to have a video to supplement it) then yes, I definitely think you can learn the sleights by just actively studing the Card College books. If you are asking if the Card College series is enough in terms of card magic, then no. Books like Expert Card Technique and Royal Road to Card Magic are pretty cheap on paperback and has enough material in it to advance your card magic and keep you busy for a lifetime.

It's not a race. The journey's the important thing.

Like Bonnie Raitt said, "I miss Little Feat more than I miss being 8 years old." Thanks for the concerts + recordings, Lowell, Richie, and Paul!

To be as specific as possible, finishing the Card College series should take you anywhere from 5 months to 50 years.

I have started in magic fairly late (36) years old and I have 4 volumes of Card College and the Daryl dvds and frankly I feel so overwhelmed with material contained there. I feel that by the time I have the material mastered, old age will begin to set in than the hands will begin to trembor anyway. So I figuered that I'll just enjoy the journey till that happens. Smile

Well said Steve,
I do not see the point of rushing these books.
Why is it neccessary to learn everything in the book. Take for example the many different ways of turning over the top card of the deck, why learn 5 if you only need one. Be more selective. I understand that some may argue that by having a basic knowledge of everything then you can invent your own routines, and sleights. But is it really neccessary to be able to do many versions of the Pass, but not being able to get away with them well.
I am not saying that I don't believe that Card College is good, I myself learned how to do magic from these books (they were my first magic books), but I personaly do not think that it is neccessary to read them cover to cover (with the exception to the Theory section of Volume 2). And if you do, why do it as quick as possible, this suggests that you are not enjoying the learning process, which in turn could be because you are trying to learn too much!
