There's been tons of discussion on motivation to busk, $$$ vs Art, etc.... No need for me to dwell any further.
However a couple things I really have not seen mentioned much. At one time I was very, very uneasy about speaking in public. I wasn't very good at it and avoided it (sweaty, blank mind, self-conscious). I knew if I forced myself to go out on the street and perform magic (which I was technically very capable), my fear of public speaking would hopefully vanish. And improve as a public speaker I did. This inspired me to go further and study public presentation formally,....acting, comedy, etc. The result is that after much time on the street I eventually became very proficient at expressing myself which has opened many doors for me. And I can thank Street Performing for this. So what I'm saying is we can look beyond the obvious benefits of busking such as money and pursuing one's art....but look at the other benefits that we get in the process. Street Performing can provide a fantastic way to improve your Public Speaking. Have others of you found this to be true also??? As a side note I also thought it would be a great way to meet hordes of beautiful sexy ladies. :-D But that's another story LOL |

Good point Stperformer.
For me it's weird since I'm pretty awkward and self conscience in small groups in social situations. Put me in front of a hundred strangers and it all seems to vanish, no matter how nervous I was the second before I go on. For me it's "private" speaking that makes me uncomfortable. I understand what you mean about the other benefits though. For me it's that feeling I get when I'm really connecting and I'm having as much fun as my audience. I cherish those moments when time seems to stand still and you're in the moment. We live in a complicated world, and we tend to be thinking about the future and the past most of the time, instead of living in the present as all the "gurus" tell us, rightly, that we should. I don't know if anyone else has experienced that feeling, but for me it's priceless.
If you need fear to enforce your beliefs, then your beliefs are worthless.

Learning to think quickly on my feet. Meeting people, often having to improvise what I say.
The presentation makes the magic.
