Shields & Yarnell started out as buskers which eventually took
them to television then later on to Las Vegas. Most of us older folks know of this famous duo. I am posting this on behalf of the younger cats whom have not. Robert Shields taught Michael Jackson many of his moves. Some say that Robert reminds them of David Copperfield onstage. I was fortunate to have met Robert when I was passing through Cottonwood Arizona a small town near Sedona,Az. where he now lives. He told me that several folks have stopped in to town to visit him. He was very charming and quite down to earth as most buskers are. Sadly Lorene Yarnell passed away in 2010. He was harassed many times whilst on the streets, but he persevered. This is a clip of Robert getting harassed in NOLA and NY. The 'Lost Tape' is the second clip below. |

I meant to say Union Square, San Francisco not NY in
my first post. This is considered to be their finest bit. You can glimpse the huge influences that Michael Jackson took from Robert's movements. |

Thanks for the wonderful memories. I was a teenager during the "golden age" of variety shows and was always delighted when Shields and Yarnell were on the program.
