Is there another version (or two) also available besides the "Dunes' version?

Just got this today. Love the effect, but I wish the cards were different. Specifically...
They don't seem to be casino quality. Thickness is ok, but the finish is off. Printing not the best, in my opinion. Don't think they were produced by USPCC. Graphics on the backs are just ok. Maxim casino logo is barely legible, stardust art is needlessly busy. The genuine cards are easily found via google images, I wish a tad bit more care was put into the design of these reproductions. I was hoping that they would be similar in quality as to what you would find in a rainbow/variety deck, they are not. I think it would have also been nice if they were subtly aged a bit, to appear more authentic per the patter. Might be a fun DIY project, but I'd hate to screw it up and ruin the set. Routines well explained, Pete Turner adds some nice touches. Multiple ways to perform the poker phase, which is nice. Happy I got it, will perform, just wish the cards were better, or I knew of a resource to produce a few limited run sets of my own design. |

Be interesting to know if the first batch were of such poor quality.

While there is no doubt some room for improvement with the cards, I really didn't have any issue with them EXCEPT for the Maxim card.
I agree with you on that one, it took me about 45 seconds straining my eyes to read it. But as it's one out of ten, not too bad IMO. The pluses more than make up for it. |

To be clear, I don't think that I got a defective set, I just think they saved a couple bucks on the production. The backs were printed from low res scans or screen captures as opposed to vector art. Like I mentioned, the maxim logo is a busy, blurry mess. The pattern lines on the backs of the cards are not crisp, you can see the pixelation.
Some will argue that it doesn't matter, not meant to be closely examined. I disagree. This is a great routine, and if I tell my specs that these were 'collected' from now defunct casinos, I'd like the props to seem somewhat authentic, not like they were digitally printed at Staples a few days ago. Also, I would have preferred one good clay chip instead of 2 of the chintzier ones. The fact that the routine is so good makes this all the more frustrating. |

After watching the trailer and how he is holding the cards I wonder if this is exactly the method of "PS - I Love You! by Steve Shufton"?!

Let's hope Steve Gore can explain why he has chosen profit over quality?

I don't know Steve personally, and judging by his enthusiasm on the DVD, he seems like a real cool guy who is very proud of this routine- as he should be.
Also, I'd like to try and avoid the 'Well, that's YOUR opinion' back-and-forth, so let me restate what is undeniable. I've worked in design/print production for 20 years, so I know what I'm talking about: Aesthetic 'opinions' aside, these cards were not produced correctly and it shows. Either they didn't bother consulting with a print production/graphics professional, or they hired someone who does not know what they are doing. The MAXIM card is unreadable at first(second, and third?) glance. There are many examples of genuine MAXIM casino cards online with clean, sharp, one color versions of the logo that should have been used. 10 minutes of research would been helpful in this regard- again, a legit creative pro would have known to do this. Serious offer- I love the routine, and would kill to have a decent set of props to use for this. If Steve and co. would consider making a new set available, on USPC stock, I would happily trade my time/creative expertise for a few free sets. |

I have had a set of the cards for some time now as I bought them straight from steve over the internet and I have had on one say that the maxim card or any of the other cards look funny or that the print on them looks strange.
On my maxim card its just the ma bit that looks a bit smudged but this fly's past people as they are not really looking at the backs of the cards for to long as you read the names out. If you are worried that the cards don't look right tell people that before the casino's went bust they started to buy in low quality cards but this lead to gamblers being able to cheat - you can then show them how to cheat in the second part of the trick. |

I've used this lots and the cards are good. Real people don't know or care about playing card quality or the crispness of the print.

Calvin 826, first of all if you even hint at something having less than perfect quality you're going to get Pegasus after it like a dog on a bone. Now he'll be saying for the next 2 years how he's glad he didn't buy this terrible piece of junk. But that's not your fault.
However, even though the points you make are valid it doesn't affect the end result. The trick still works fine and no one is the wiser. I get that this is your field and it bothers you and that's fine, but you act like the trick is unusable and that's simply not true. Could the cards have been made better? Yes. Does it ultimately make a difference? No. |

But it does, it makes a huge difference and magicians making excuses to their specs is plain wrong. Do we want to set a precedent and just accept that we are going to pay good money for sub-par materials that are clearly not up to the job? I will not.

To be clear- I never said the props don't work, and I'm sorry if that was in any way implied.
Consider this- Number Mystery Outdone by Royal Magic 'works', but most of us prefer Powerball 60, and were happy to pay a lot more for it. Why? For the price of this effect I was expecting much higher quality props, that's all. And please don't let my posts serve a springboard for you guys to pick on each other. All is well. |

The re-release of the project was handled totally by System Six (who bought the rights from me) so I don't know who he used for the card printing. I've only just received my stock from them to compare between by original set. The image quality of the cards (even the Maxim) cards are the same as the initial release. The card were designed for me by Christian of Card Shark and these same images have been used. I agree the card stock is of a different quality to the initial set but they are still very usable and are probably more hard wearing. Profit doesn't come into it for me. I always want my products to be top notch. Ive performed this effect hundreds of time and nobody has ever commented on the image or card quality, including top magicians who I've shown. Sadly there is just the one (Dunes) version but this hasn't been an issue for me. Thanks for the kind comments and hope you all enjoy performing it as much as I and many others have. |

I had the initial version of the release from Steve and had zero issues with the quality of the cards. It's a great effect.

Allow me to clarify that even though I got this fairly recently, I did buy it used so probably got one of the earlier versions so that is all I have to go by. But I'm sure as Steve has said that even if the newer versions have slightly different card stock I'm sure it will not make a difference to the specs or to the longevity of the prop.
I am all for products being released in the highest quality and I am generally pretty picky about things but this is a case IMO where it really doesn't make a difference in the overall scheme of things. I certainly wouldn't opt to pay any significant amount more for a higher quality version, and I don't feel the current version is overpriced for what you get. I also much prefer the 2 contrasting chips that a single clay chip, but maybe that's just me. So I wouldn't recommend anyone avoiding this excellent effect due to issues of quality. And that's about all I can say about that. |

I got the original version over a yr ago. Nice effect. Great quality. Not great for strolling because of the table space required but nice if you have some space
