(By the way, if this trick used the types of cards some people here are dreaming about, the trick would likely have cost $50, not $30, and people would be complaining about that.)

Any chance I can have some of that stuff you've been smoking?

Hi pegasus, you seem to be the resident know-it-all around here, so perhaps you can tell us how much USPCC would charge to make a relatively small batch of these cards (let's say a thousand sets)? I honestly have no idea, do you?

Hello. May I refer you to page 1. You'll see they were 23 pounds. And everyone compliments the cards, which means the original batch were of top quality.

BTW it took 27 months for Muldoon to re release this effect. I think we can safely say that they have used some chip shop card printer for this batch. So glad I didn't buy.

The original batch was not printed by USPCC, and Steve Gore has already mentioned there's little difference between the quality of his original batch and the current ones (no difference in image quality, a slightly different "feel" to the cards). To get the quality some folks are truly wanting, you'd have to get someone like USPCC involved (or maybe Card-Shark). And to get a major company like USPCC involved, they are going to be concerned with things like trademark issues (even though these casinos are defunct, someone somewhere still likely owns the various trademarks, including the joker images on the faces). It's the kind of thing that gets complicated very quickly.

However, Gore states "I agree the card stock is of a different quality to the initial set but they are still very usable and are probably more hard wearing."

He sounds like a politician. It's obvious that the rerelease is sub par from the original. Anyway I don't even like the effect so I don't give a toss. No more on the subject from me.

One thing I neglected to mention is that the plastic switch wallet is great. It seems like an obvious kind of idea, but I've never seen one before - it's simple and gets the job done. Pegasus, thanks for your input, it's always helpful to read comments from folks who don't even own the effect in question. By the way, I don't believe you, you'll keep posting on this thread because...you can't help yourself!

It seems to me the ones moaning about the cards have not even got the trick or have not worked it - I have done this trick quite a few times and know one as ever said anything about the cards , they only got to see the backs for a few seconds so it fly's past them anyway.

Just for grins, I did a few quick searches at the US Patent and Trademark Office. The Dunes trademark is owned by Bellagio, LLC; the Stardust trademark is owned by Boyd Gaming Corp; Aladdin looks like it's owned by Aladdin Games, LLC (although it might have been abandoned); and the Imperial Palace trademark is owned by Khong Guan Corp. (whoever that is). In short, you are never going to see these cards produced by the USPCC (not without a lot of effort and legal expense anyway) and it's remarkable that they even exist in their current form...

For those who would like something a little nicer than the plastic wallet that came with it I would recommend the JOL Reverse Packet Trick Holder. You can do the same switch with it and it looks great.

Great advice. I actually have a JOL packet trick mini Himber that I use. It's perfect and the chips also fit as well.

I bought Casino Con directly from Steve over a year ago. My cards look great and they have never been questioned at all. Does anyone live in MD that has the new set? Would love to compare in person. I too would be miffed if they looked crappy.
And just hang out because I have no friends.

Here's a side by side image of one card from the old set and one from the new. Trust me (I'm not a politician 😉) the image quality on both sets is the same. One is a little darker than the other. Nobody has ever mentioned it before in the years I've been performing it, including Gregory Wilson when he saw them and got his set.

Hi Steve - I think the one card that people seem to be moaning more about is the maxim card.

I'll post that one this one later this afternoon. I agree it is the worst of all the images. Like everyone has said, the spectators only see it for a few seconds so it never is questioned.

cheers

Serious Questions:

1. I would really like to have a premium set of the cards made based on vector artwork that I will gladly provide. Can somebody put me in touch with a quality gaff maker/printer that can work with me on this? These will be for my use only- I am not looking to sell to anyone else,I don't want a hundred cards(maybe 3 sets).

2. Would this be ethically ok, considering that I did pay for the effect, and am not looking to sell or distribute?

Sounds very OCD to me but hey, it's your time and money so have at it.
Or you could just not worry about it and enjoy performing the effect.

For those that want to see the side by side comparison on the Maxim cards. Here it is https://instagram.com/p/BSZLmLWDNKa/

Just remember you are showing them 10 card backs, 1 every second. It's never an issue

Here Gregory's 2nd performance to another world poker star. http://youtu.be/Un6eAD0UkUk

Enjoy performing it yourselves! 😃

Have it, perform it, and never has a person questioned the cards. Why would they, there is way too much over analyzing about this card issue. The effect is very good and props are great, have fun with it and enjoy performing. JMO

Hey guys, this is going to be my review of The casino Con, the latest release from Steve Gore and Gregory Wilson. ok so technically, this isn't a brand new effect as it has been around for a few years, however it has now been re-released and now includes a dvd with instructions.

so what is it? basically its a packet trick with a three phase routine, the effect is outlined as follows.

The faces of ten rare jokers are shown then the backs are shown and seen that they are from ten different demolished Las vegas casinos. The volunteer shuffles the packet of cards, either in their own hands or they do a "wash" shuffle face up on a table and spread them out. You give them your “lucky” poker chip to hold unseen. They choose ANY of the ten jokers and it matches the casino chip they are holding.
For the second phase, the chip they are holding, visually changes value in your hands, and for the final phase, you shuffle face up so they see lots of jokers again and fairly deal the ten cards face down into two poker hands. They think you are “jokering” around, that you both have "Five of a kind!" They have 5 jokers, but yours are all SPADES... A royal flush in spades!

What's the quality like? the cards are very well designed and printed the artwork of the Jokers is really nice! and the chips are top notch, also the wallet is of decent quality and can come in handy for a whole range of other effects. The dvd instructions are well produced and clearly explain the routine, Peter Turner also adds some nice performance ideas.
This is definitely a keeper and after playing around with it for a while and performing it a number of times this is a real worker and a great addition to anybody's repertoire. Easy to perform and killer reactions every time.
over all score 5/5.
