I would like to see you build the Tom Palmer table. I have tried 4 times to build this table over the last 50 years and have failed to make it to my liking.
I believe that the front should be either 1/8" ply or one of new products that would marry well with plywood. The plans are not easy to make adjustments as their are problems with the measurements given and re-enforcement pieces on the upper sides and front. The plans are available from Magic Inc. or Paul Osborne. The Magic Inc. plans are more detailed even though they are a number of mistakes. Like telling to use brads that would go completely through the wood. Mister Illusionman2, should you chose to accept this assignment, all knowledge of proper workshop plans will be disavowed. This message will self destruct in 10 seconds. |

My table is almost identical. It was made by a local carpenter here in Mallorca. Need to see if he can make me a new one now, its getting a bit tatty after 8 years of nightly use. Just love the paint job, looking like a deck of cards.
By failing to prepare, we are preparing to fail.

You did a great job on that table! I tried to make one once. It came out... OK. But I had trouble getting everything lined up so the table sat open and sat closed properly. I would love to see your process.

It's a cool table and you have a good start going.
Two points (especially if you intend to do the card box design): 1) See if you can better disguise the horizontal hinge on the front. Functionality should not override the otherwise clean design. 2) Make the top edge trim seem not so clunky and industrial. It doesn't go with the rest of the table. Other than that, it is a really nice design mechanically and artistically.

I finished this last night will try to get some pictures up this week.
My budget was $50.00 .Wood was $34. so I had to use all recycled hardware from my junk box, the rest of the money will go to paint. For me with no plans it took around 4 HRs to build. I think I will be going with the King of dimonds on the front and just black stripes on the sides so it should look like a deck of jumbo playing cards (this should be easier for me to do plus I think the kids would like all the bright colors and it should also work with aduld shows). |

If you make a drape that attaches/detaches, you can conceal the King of Diamonds and use it either as a prediction (like insurance policy), or as a means of comically turning the entire audience into instant stooges, sans one volunteer onstage who can't see it.

As you used all 3/8 inch wood, how much does it weight?
How tall it with wheels and top on? How wide did you make it at the front? How thick is the side length, will a 10 box trick fit easily on the shelf? Will a 14 inch tube fit standing up on the inside shelf? Did you use 2 inch casters? Anything less I find is difficult to roll on carpet. Thanks. |

I am sure it is not the same size of the Tom Palmer table (as I did not know it was one till your first post) his look bigger (I did a Google search after that post). 14 inch tube standing upright bottom shelf only. 10 inch prop bottom shelf only, top two shelfs 9" only. This one is 24x11x38 (do you have the size of the Tom Palmer table)? |

Box for Tom Palmer is 24"x16"x10", top is 24"x12" because of the way the top fits on the back, with pins installed.
The front hinges are put in a dado cut, so they don't stick out. |

Hi Dick,
I just ran across a few photos of Granny Harris. She was known for the egg beater.
