I do mainly close up magic, I have introduced palm reading and its one of the most requested aspects of my act, I have studied mostly cold reading and mainly added bits as time has gone on. My question is this, what would be a good ending mentalist trick or something I can loop into, IE start with and then bring full circle. The reason I'm asking is because I'm mainly a close up worker with cards, coin etc. If you help this would be appreciated, please only post if you are a working act and have real life experience of using the effect you suggest, this will save time in the long run for myself, sorry to be so blunt, but I really don't want to waste my time and yours, I hope you understand and don't get offended by my comments.
Warm Regards

Structure is structure, surely?
so however you structure your act currently - apply it to this too... (not trying to be funny) how do you currently segue from cards and coins, into palmistry? how do you portray yourself?

Maybe you should save our time and try to think by yourself how well structure an act.
I agree with Iain. |

Nothing can follow a good palm reading.
Once I start palm reading, there is no time, or requests for anything else. I don't use cold reading lines, I read the palm. As a lead into palm reading, anything that uses the hands provides continuity. Just follow up with, "May I see your hands?" And off you go. |

Re Tony: "As a lead into palm reading, anything that uses the hands provides continuity." Aaron Alexander's Bridge or my Jumping Pulse come to mind though never having read a palm, and as one reluctant to buy into such an "orthodox" opinion, I don't see why they couldn't follow as well.

Hold on you only know a little, I thought this was a place to talk about ideas, not to chastise people. How I structure my routine is really simple, I tell a true story, my nana is romaine traveler who passed the the knowledge down to myself, this is how I got into palm reading, I work this week in week out. Basically I was looking for advise from some one to add a ending point and go back into my act, but if your all to ready to kick a man then, why bother writing a reply? I was told this place had good people not ********* who offer very little apart form self inflated views who probably have never worked in the real world. You know what allow this place, keep it.

Some tried to help here!
A good palm reading tells a person about themself, past and future, loves and losses, it is all about them. It is near impossible to follow that up with anything. Just about anything after that is weaker and of little interest following the reading. Perhaps you could use the readings an the ending piece or as an encore piece. Tony |

I'm not a self-inflated ***, but only because I'm finally following my doctor's advice on that.
I think Jermay's A Twisted Palm would be an awesome way to end a reading, especially with a true gypsy story as a part of it. As Bill said, TJP and Bridge would both work well, especially if you were moving into a non-sleight routine from the palm. I have experience with all three, and I know of several people who combine each of those with a palm reading. All that said, I don't do palm readings professionally and have rubbed or shared elbows with the creators of all those, so take it with a huge grain of salt. The things I listed above work well and would fit artistically, and you can decide if they fit your purposes. I think people here are weary of sleight of hand magicians who dabble in readings, blurring the lines and missing/ruining the depth that can be a part of a palm reading. It happens all the time, and from your first post, that's what it sounded to me like you were doing, too. In any case, good luck! -Aaron. |

All I was saying was as you have an act, you know how to structure one...apply the same rules to your story, beginning, middle and end...so do your magic, do your cards and coins, then back to the cards and say "besides the magic, I know one other thing...something that was passed onto me by my nana...do you want to see it? you have interesting hands..."
do your palm reading, and let that be your finish...you won't be able to top it, its what Tony said, and you yourself said... depending on what you open with, obviously no idea of your scripting, but starting with something about "hands" might be worthwhile looking at, cos then it brings it full circle...when you consider what we do with our hands, we 'talk' with our hands, we gesticulate, we hold hands, we shake hands, we accuse, we point, we punch, we help, we lift up, we carry, we share...that kind of thing... not sure how true it is, but did you know that the reason why native americans raised their hand and said "How" was so that the shaman of the tribe could read the palm and know that person instantly? the other thing is, to be fair - you did come in very bluntly, and its come across pretty badly (from the reactions) - online communication is hard sometimes, maybe don't burn bridges quite yet, and its also a two way street...streets, bridges, hands, mixed metaphors everywhere... personally, I'd theme it all around the palmistry, paul voodini's palmistry dvd has a great mix of magic/presentations, as well as the knowledge on palmistry...

Not true. I raised my hand to a native American once and said, "How." He raised his hand in response and said, "Chance." I said, "Don't you mean 'how',? He answered, "Know how, need chance." |

If you really want to incorporate cards with palm readings then Paul Voodini's Hand of Destiny is a great routine. But as others here have said, really can't beat a good reading. Most things after that will pale in comparison.
