Help! I am starting to get back into magic, and I have been unable to make any real contacts in the Shreveport area. I am interested in learning about maybe some Magic conventions that may be happening near me in the near future. If anyone has any information or advice on who I may be able to contact for this information it would be greatly appreciated.
About me: I am 30 years old and used to do magic as a teenager. I did basic tricks mostly relying on gimmicks and/or self working card tricks. I gave up on it for a period of time, but now I am interested in pursuing the art further. I have been working really hard with cards lately and I'm about to start working on good sleight of hand routines. I own the Royal Road to Card Magic DVD set, and I am pretty decent at most of the moves taught there. I have been working really hard to make my classic pass, double lift, glide, and other card manipulations look well. I think they are performance ready as I have tried them out for my wife. She told me she never saw anything suspicious happen when I executed the moves, so I guess that means I'm doing something right. Anyways, any feedback or advice would b greatly appreciated. Thanks ahead of time. |

I just moved from Shreveport a couple of weeks ago. There is a magic club that you can contact that meet on the first Thursday of every month at Dennys on Mansfield. They are on facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/152491391624772/ is the group. A great bunch of guys loved going to the meetings.

Thank you for the info Kaneda! I did hear about that group, but I was hoping I wouldn't have to join the IBM just yet. I'm still such a beginner that I'm not sure if I want to invest my money into that group just yet. I may have to look into it more though. Thank you very much for the feedback and information. I really appreciate it. Good luck to you on your future endeavors.

You can go for 3 meetings before you actually have to join. Can go and just to get the feel of it and then you can decide if you wanna join or not. I am somewhat a beginner as well but I really enjoyed going the 2 times I went before I moved. I learned a whole lot and saw a lot of great magic while being there.

There is an IBM Ring (#286) in Longview TX. which is only an hours drive from Shreveport. I used to live in Longview (a long time ago). I don't know how active they are but there is contact information on the IBM and TAOM websites.
