Live From the Living Room DVD This is a review for Live From the Living Room. First off this is a 3 disc in one dvd package. Dvd 1 is a a live one time kid show. There are ups and downs, but it is real, raw, and entertaining. I found I liked watching this way more then I should. He is absolutely entertaining. This video looks good too. I watched it on a computer. DVD 2 is the secrets. Christopher doesn't go into detail on how marketed effects work, but does give details with all his original ideas. Also he states that you can use anything that is done in the dvd with the exception of the singing bits. Here I will list all the effects and a brief explanation of what they are: 1. 1225s - Bill switch from one dollar to two fives. The effect is called One to two Fives 2. Magic, Magic - Singing with Rainbow Streamers production and disappearance 3. Accidental Socks - Socks are produced and shown to have come off the magician's feet 4. Pop-Tart! - Torn and restored Pop-Tart 5. Looking Like a Magician - Dresses kid up like a magician and sings 6. Bananas and Eggs - Perpetual bananas, growing banana (multiple times to a giant banana) and silk to egg 7. Theatre Magic - Idea on preforming magic 8. Broccoli Story - Story about eating broccoli (coins) coins disappear and reappear 9. Special Magic Words - Finding the birthday kid's magic words 10. The Pop-Up Present - Present pops up out of case with using the birthday kid's magic words. Uses Animation Sensation effect 11. Tastes Like Crayons - Based on the effect Sugar High. 12. The Eeny Meeny Miny Moe Force - Explanation of the force DVD 3 is theory and it is worth the price of the dvds. It has 2 sections Magician Control, which is 20 rules to help you get a better show and Bits of the Show Business, which helps you understand how to make your show into a show and not just a string of tricks. Watching this and using the tips will help you on your journey to getting to be a better magician. Christopher has really given you the most bang for your buck with this disc. So overall the dvds are well made. The video is great and DVD 3 puts some humor into the explanations, which is entertaining. These DVDs really gear you to making your existing show more of a success story. There are some effects that really are worth the price too. Pop-Tart! I would say is the stand out piece. Not hard to do and every kid will identify with a Pop-tart. You need to do a little craft work, but that is minimal and that means you can customize your items. The other effect is Broccoli Story. It is a story effect about how Christopher had to eat broccoli as a child and his attempts to not eat it. It is a quieter moment in his set and I think it is a really great idea that you can take the effect and change it to fit a number of different stories. The real gem of this series is DVD 3. Let me first say that this DVD is not just a rehashing of his book. They are two different items and they complement each other perfectly. There is some overlap, but not to much. The magician control are rules on how to avoid potential problem areas in a show. He highlights these rules with showing bits from the live show and, in some cases, shows how a rule could have changed an outcome or how it worked. The Bits of Show Business explains how an effect is broken down. It shows Christopher knows about theatre and how to apply that knowledge to magic. This was wonderful to watch. Like with his book, this DVD will get you to think critically about your show. I cannot recommend this DVD enough. It is well made and really worth the money. It is also over 5 hours long! Christopher has taken his time and brought a wonderful product to the market. If you do kid shows, it is a no brainer go buy it. No really go buy it. I'm not kidding go and buy it. I want to thank Christopher T. Magician for sharing this DVD and his book Beyond Look, Don't See to the magic world. I feel like I have been apart of history. Not just from helping with the donations to get these made, but because I feel like these have set a standard for any other magic I will buy in the future. He has set a bench mark that will be very hard to overcome. |

My Gosh! Andy, you're my hero. Thanks for starting both this thread and the other Beyond Look Don't See Thread. I hope if others had positive experiences with the DVDs they will post here as well (I suppose they can post bad reviews, but fingers crossed that won't happen). Again, thank you for listing the effects discussed in the DVD.
I do want to quickly mention like Andy said that "Magic, Magic," "Looking Like A Magician Now!," and "Special Magic Words" are three songs I perform in the show, and while every routine is free to use, permission is not given to use these songs (mainly because I wrote them with a writing partner, and he has the rights to them as well). That being said, in the Secrets section of the DVD I do discuss some ideas on how to present the routines without the songs. I'm very glad Andy mentioned the fact that I point out in the discussions things I could have done better as well as things that I've changed since the taping. I didn't want to present the perfect show here ... rather, it's a real show. And I'm happy to hear you appreciated that, Andy. And as Andy mentioned, this DVD (and the book) would not have been possible without all the generation donations to the fundraiser I did with the Super Secret Episode. Thank you so much to everyone who helped out and made this dream come true for me. Christopher |

If you need fear to enforce your beliefs, then your beliefs are worthless.
