Is there ANY way to get my hands on this? I'm really looking for the tarot book, but I'd like to have all of them eventually. I can't believe there isn't one out there somewhere.
I know he has a site up, but it's derelict and I emailed his daughter presumably because I had heard that was who was managing it. I got no response. |

Beyond Joe's take on Hand Analysis and the 7 Day Tarot Course there isn't that much in the course you're missing.
Richard Webster's "Quick and Effective Cold Reading" will give you an excellent grounding in Palm Readings which can also be adapted to other readings. From memory the 6 levels of the course (I think I was the first person to get his close up course and subsequently the first to get his psychic course) are: 1. Advanced Cold Reading: Some advice on readings and the use of "Cold Reading" as a hook to start a reading. In other words starting off with something that will work so that the rest of the reading will be accepted. 2. Hand Analysis. 3. Tarot in 7 Days. 4. Numerology and Tricks of the 5. Advertising. 6. The use of hypnosis to add to your practice. If you can somehow get hold of the tarot section (he did a video on it before the course which was excellent and how I learnt tarot) and the Webster book you'll have more than you need. Oh, and Webster's book "Quick Readings with Chinese Numerology" will give you the dope of numerology. |

I think speed learning palm reading, by the cold reading company is a great book for anyone wanting to learn. Combined with the tick sheets that you can give away it makes any memory work you have to do much easier.
By failing to prepare, we are preparing to fail.

I had a few conversations with Joe's daughter a few years back, but she never followed through on any of it. It's a shame, as there has always been interest in Joe's work on tarot and hand reading, and she could be making a bit of money.
Of course, much of that interest stems from Richard Webster's mentions of Joe, which should be a good clue that the best instruction on these subjects comes directly from Mr Webster. There's a good reason why he remains Llewellyn's #1 author, and most of his copious books for the mystery entertainment trade continue to be strong sellers over the years. He's even published a variety of free essays, all of which make for interesting reading on these topics. So, like David, I also recommend his "Quick and Effective Cold Reading" as the best place to start. Again, there's a good reason why this is the most venerated book on the subject.

I tracked down his daughter on FB and asked her about putting the stuff back online. I told her there was a steady demand for it, which seems true to me.
Will keep you posted. |

If I recall a member here who knew Joe had been in touch with his daughter about compiling his work into book form. However, the sticking point was she wanted ebook whereas the member wanted a proper book.

My message to her:
Perhaps this is a bit forward, but would you consider putting your father's work back up for sale? I can assure you that while you won't be able to retire to Monaco, there is a steady demand for it--especially the psychic course. Myself I'm looking for the Tarot in 7 Day book. Her response: Hi Thank you so much for you email. I would be delighted to put my dad`s work back up for sale now - ...what a shame I won`t be able to retire somewhere sunny, shucks I guess its good old sunny Britain for me than! If you just give me a few days to sort out my computer I will message you (or email if you send me that address), I would be more than happy to send you the Tarot in 7 days asap. Thank you for messaging me, I really appreciate knowing that my dad hasn`t been forgotten. |

I managed to track down his tarot in 7 days, hand analysis, deep relaxation and tricks of the trade.
His tarot course is similar to leaping lizards tarot with 'tude available on amazon. The good thing about Joes tarot book is his sample readings though. His hand analysis/palmistry course is quite basic, and revolves mainly around which fingers are sticking out when a hand is presented to you, you'd be better off with Speed Learning Palmistry or Richard Websters material (check out his readings for entertainment book to learn palmistry/tarot/graphology/numerology) |

Agreed Chamberlain: Solid foundations for one's readings, understanding of metaphysical concepts and the initial workings of various oracles may be successfully acquired through Richard Webster's books. Richards works encompass the spectrum of beginner to professional.
Why is it that on one side of the world a person looks at a picture of the Grand Canyon and says, "it looks so real." At the same time on the other side of the world a person looks at the Grand Canyon and says, "it looks like a picture."

Whether a book is an ebook or a physical book doesn't impact on whether it gets shared. Granted it's easier to share an ebook instantly but from other threads here it's clear a book being physical is by no means prohibitive to it getting shared.

Not prohibitive David, granted. Albeit, if pond-life want to overlook copyright, then that's something they have to live with.
But it's a whole lot more time-consuming to scan/copy a proper book, than simply clicking 'Attach' and 'Send' is it not? That's the reason why I have never wanted to help produce Joe Riding's material via eBooks. To my mind, and nothing will convince me otherwise, they would get shared around the community for free. And when anything is free, it instantly loses it's value, and it's worth. Plus, a lot of Joe's material was produced in limited numbers so that only people paying top dollar would use it. In other words, it was produced for professional performers that valued it's content and paid considerable sums of money accordingly. It's too good to be shared amongst amateurs and hobbyists if I'm being brutally honest. To produce his work in eBook format would be going against those principles that he held close to his heart when he sold these manuscripts during his professional career. It would also be a kick in the teeth to those within our community that purchased this material on the promise of it being limited distribution.

Barry,
I didn't appreciate that you were the very chap that was going to do the book. As someone that has written ebooks and seen them pirated I can understand where you are coming from. That said, in his last years Joe himself embraced the internet and released his work in ebook format. Piracy isn't new now, it wasn't new then either. Sure, it's easier than scanning but it happens anyway. I recall many in the local magic circle photocopying books and watching 3rd of 4th generation copies of videos. I don't think Joe's stuff was too limited in release - I think he used "limited" as a marketing ploy. I recall seeing an ad for a Blackpool convention where he was saying he only had a few copies of Learn the Tarot in 7 Days left...a couple of years later he released it as a video (thru Vic Pinto IIRC) and then again it formed part of his Psychic Course which was £20 a lesson at the time. A few years later the entire Psychic Course could be bought for quite a bit less than in ebook format. I'm not being critical as Joe was and still is a huge hero of mine but he was fairly shrewd and savvy regarding marketing his stuff. That said, I think Joe's legacy DESERVES a lovely smelling (I like book smells) hardbound book with the option being there for an ebook. I hope one day you are successful in getting one published. |

Hi. David,
You are right in many ways as Joe moved into digital media - primarily when he began lecturing in the USA. CD's were much lighter to carry around than paper lecture notes, etc. However, most of Joe's earliest (best?) material never saw the light of day after initial manuscripts were sold late 70's-early/mid 80's. There were personal family reasons for Joe having lost these; and not actually having copies himself. Suffice to say, what Joe released via CD and eBook was quite a small percentage of his overall brilliant work.

I have come across this site:
http://www.angelfire.com/ultra/hoolin/pr......als.html it purports to be selling Joe's work, the links to paypal work. Does anyone know if this is legit or is someone pirating Joe's work? |
