Hi everyone! Im new to the Café, and I recently saw this really amazing finger ring routine. Here's the link below
https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=681043681973822 I was hoping that you guys can help me identify some of the moves used in the routine and where I can learn them from because I would really like to learn them, but do not know where to find them from! All I can identify is circuit by zach heath and a couple moves which I think I have seen from patrick kun's reflex and Justin Miller's divorce (pardon me if I am wrong!) Much help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! |

Hi, sorry I'm currently having problems linking the video as it is a video posted on a facebook page by a magician.
As for now, you can follow this link https://www.facebook.com/illusionArtistEG?fref=photo and watch the first video from the top. I will try to get a proper link if possible! Thanks! |

That was really cool! I think maybe he did De'vo's De'Ring move at the end, but I'm not sure.

Let me just put my socks back on, the combination of rock music and finger dexterity only witchcraft can bestow on a person appears to have blown them clean off.
Ring Theory by Antoine Thomas springs to mind. ' Eye-popping, visual eye-candy. OVER 40 TRICKS AND FLOURISHES. The most innovative course on ring manipulation we've ever seen.' I can't vouch for it myself, but it gets 4 stars from 6 reviews on magic penguin. On second thought, Ringja by Nie Te looks to be exactly what your after: Nie Te has 1/4 Japanese lineage and background from a "Ninja Family" of Edo period. He won the Second Prize at "Close-up Magic Competition, Japan" in both 2009 and 2010. In 2012, he caught people's eyes by "Nie Te's Shift", and the visual stunt also got some masters' attention, such as Garrett Thomas and Ponta the Smith. To sum up, "Ringja" is revolutionary in presentation and brings inspiration to the Ring Magic. Powerful 9 Tricks & 2 Routines No Need to Preset (Totally Impromptu) Plus 2 Bonus Tricks |

Very slick performance, makes you wonder how many hours of practise he had to put in to get to such a standard ?

Looks like a nice mix of several commercially available ring effects all put together in a very nice order. Very well done too (but the music could go )
Great job figuring out an order to put them in that flowed and still made sense.

Thanks for all the reply guys! I really appreciate it. I'm actually really interested in the vanish he does at 22 seconds in the video. Any idea where I can find this exact version of vanish or anything similar? Thanks! (:

Looks like he just used a common coin grip. What books and DVDs do you have already? I'll try to point you at the right one, or recommend one if you don't have it.

Some of the moves are in Justin Millers "Divorce" download. The download gives credit to the original creators and further sources for study.

WAS DONE SO FAST COULD NOT ENJOY IT

Technique and flow of the routine was well done. Pacing was way off, even as just a demonstration and more so as a performance. No chance to enjoy magical moments as it ended up being a blur of motion.

I agree with Vinny. This is a typical problem I see with the plethora of videos out there. They become a finger gymnastics exercise rather when they could be a beautiful manipulative display. They try to cram every known move into a small amount of time so it becomes more of a puzzle than magic in my opinion. I typically see this with coin magic. My first word of advice to younger less experienced magicians is to slow down.

I totally agree, the Asian culture has made magic a race to see how fast they can get through their moves. Not only with rings and coins, but also with Billiard Balls, playing cards, and thimbles. Not showmanship at a all. Just move after another, then they stand there expecting to get applause, when they have told the audience they don't care about if they watch and enjoy or not, they just have to show off what they can do with their fingers. Very sad.

I don't think it's a cultural thing but more of a youth and inexperience issue. Look at FISM winner Yu Hojin. His pace is very slow and deliberate and he has one of the finest card manipulative acts I have ever seen.

Slow down is indeed what is needed with this finger ring routine.
Yes, Yu Hojin presents his act slow, deliberate and allows time for the audience to enjoy the magic. Very nice act, but I would not go so far as Dr. Magico (or FISM) in my praise. Simply personal taste. |
