I thought this was re-released a year or two ago....
John Archer had an effect with a dog collar called "collard", you can just adapt that to an old hotel room key instead of the dog tag. |

I thought I heard that Don Wayne had some stock left and was selling Room Service if contacted. That was a while ago, so it was never verified. He is a very nice gentleman, so I believe he would answer an email inquiry.
He is still selling his floating ball, Abbott's Magic seems to be the only dealer carrying it. |

I have this effect, which I must have picked-up at Hollywood Magic years ago. I've done it solo a few times and it gets a great reaction, but I'd much prefer the room number look more printed than hand written. Any ideas how do accomplish that solo instead of the offstage assistant? Probably not poss9ble, but it would be amazing ...

A Café Member has devised an engraving machine for this type of effect, in a solo act. If I remember correctly it was in the $500 and above price point. Check the Inner Thoughts topic or do a search.

I've actually performed Room Service, as well as the original Koran trick on which it is based. The Koran verbal dodge ("inscribed on the back...") is beautiful. The Don Wayne correction tape method is very good, but who uses room keys anymore, unless you're working the Vulture Room at the Bates Motel?
If I were to perform Room Service today, I would use a black grease pencil thumb writer and a plastic hotel room card. I would hold the card straddled between my fore and little fingers and thumb write with the card held above my head. I'm sure someone has invented this already. (I've always written my room number on my room card, frustrating the security feature of the card system, so it would be natural to have the number written on it.) However, isn't this a step backwards from the original Koran trick? And why would anyone bother with an engraving machine backstage?! Might as well use 999 medallions and an onstage index! DK |

Over the years, I have performed both the Gold Medallion (Jack Dean application of Koran's masterpiece) and Room Service, and each without an assistant. Great impact on the audience.

The mom and pop motel down the road still uses room keys. Put a quarter in the slot on the bed and get a good ride.

I just recently came into this thread. I have one of the Room Service tricks when they first came out. Have not done this in years but would like to use it in an upcoming zoom show. Any recommendations for the letters that can be used on it? Back in the day we used white letroset (or something like that) - any suggestions for rub on or stick on numbers to be used? Would need to be white, gold or silver I would imagine. Any suggestions would be appreciated before I start researching.
Many thanks, Rick |

For those who believe, no explanation is necessary; for those who do not believe, no explanation will suffice.

Actually you can use COLLARD2 gimmick including the gimmick pad . The gimmick pad make your work easier comparing with original Room Service method.
