Many of you will be familiar with Tabary’s “Double Whammy” effect with ring and rope. The ring jumps onto the rope and is then removed, only to jump back on again. It is called “Double Ring Through” on Colombini’s “Ring and Rope” DVD.
I have never liked this effect because the initial holding of the ring and rope between the hands is so artificial, unnatural and forced. It has suddenly come to me that the effect will work wondrously as a Single Whammy with spectator participation. EFFECT: The rope in the left hand and ring in the right are shown separately. The ring is placed in the left hand to illustrate passing the right hand through. Then the lower end of the rope is lifted and tossed through the ring as demonstration of how it would normally be done. The ring is clearly on the rope. A spectator grasps the upper end and extracts the rope from the ring as a demonstration that the ring is now off of the rope – the ring displayed separately from the rope. With the spectator holding both ends the ring is now tossed onto the rope! The spectator displays the rope and ring to everyone with you nowhere near. What do you think? Worth pursuing? This could easily follow the Hindu Ring Mystery with the initial insertion of the rope made identical to the later required moves. Thus, the audience will be conditioned to the naturalness of the pass though that is faked in the Single Whammy. Those familiar with the effect can figure out the new moves. Sounds real interesting, Ken. Though I have to think about it for a bit!

Thought I had this somewhere but apparently I don’t. I have a couple of Aldo's rope DVDs and a good handful of his ebooks but the Double Ring Through isn't in any of them. So I'll have to beg off this one until I get this - eventually.
Thanks! Jim |

Both of his Ring on Rope DVDs are worth having, but I only made the reference because of this forum where I can't discuss method. Write for more details at gusarimagic@comcast.net

I just realized that this can also be done with rope loops. Start with two sections of rope -- even different lengths as in the middle of PN. Have a spectator tie one into a loop. Demonstrate how the other, untied one can be placed through the loop. This means that if it were tied the rings would be joined. Have the spectator remove the free strand and tie it into a ring. They can hold both rings as you move away. Later the two rope rings join together in their hands. Using ropes would help mask the fact that the rings are already joined.
for those unfamiliar with this method and not giving too much away, the showing of the rope though the ring is faked and the removal by the spectator actually links them. This reversal of roles works because there is no "magic" going on at the time and the joining disconnected from the actions.
