I wasn't personally attributing 'embellishment' or 'lies' to any particular part of the lecture, as I only watched the first two hours once. I was merely stating in my opinion, there is a notable difference between the two, although there will undoubtedly be someone who can give examples which may fall in a grey area.
FWIW, I would not put any false testimonials or company names on my website as it would not fit with my personal ethics or be needed for my part time business (I have enough genuine, auditable feedback). Having said that, I am not working for in a Billionaire resort or determined to become rich through magic (although it might be nice!). |

I'm not being sarcastic as I can be at times, the following is a serious question.
If he, and others with whom he deals (possibly can get testimonials from) think that it is okay to lie, why should we believe what they are telling us in terms of how much they make or how to best get gigs? "I'll lie to others but am telling you the truth (and you can check with these people who know me but apparently think it's also okay to lie)." doesn't really instill a lot of confidence. I know that certain things about his work can be proven, but anything beyond that becomes highly questionable coming from someone that thinks that lying is perfectly acceptable. Isn't everything that is said about him to promote this lecture just marketing, about which it is okay to lie? |

Aren't all magicians liars if you think about it?

And then I do it. Where's the lie? |

However, if a movie maker were to say they have worked for a bunch of companies and that is not true, that IS a lie. KJ |

As a positive takeaway, his points could be put to good use in an ethical way. For example, embellishing the truth is still truth. At one point he said that if you perform at a BofA branch, then technically you can say you have performed for BofA. Nothing wrong with that.
Also, the idea of building an impressive list of referrals for your website is a good idea. If you call on Fortune 100 companies and offer a free magic show, even if it is at one of their local offices, you have still worked for them. In that case, I think it would be fair to conclude that using them as a referral is your compensation for the real work you really did. So, you worked for them, and you were compensated. As for the Rolex, smash it with a hammer and throw it out. Nothing wrong with buying something really nice on sale or used. You can even get used REAL Rolex watches for just a few grand. Why do people feel the need to lie anyway? The truth is so much more powerful. I built a business by being brutally honest and it got me in the top 1% in the industry. Just go out there, be honest, and passionately follow a purpose. The rest will take care of itself. KJ. |

BTW, if you offer to work for a Fortune 100 company, you still need to be accepted and actually work for them before you can ethically put it on your website... just to clarify.

1KG isn't a multi-millionaire. He's following Shimshi's advice and lying about it in order to make himself appear more successful than he is.
He really lives in the projects.

MovieMan,
Why are you so angry? If I said "I work in a Las Vegas Casino" or "I wear blue jeans", you probably wouldn't have been so angry. Why does someone having money anger you? Jamie is just having some innocent fun, it doesn't bother me. Drink a beer and relax a bit. KJ |
