Personally I think the major system is far superior to the loci system. Its indexable (if that's a word) and it can be used for homophones ( I think that's what they are called). Memorising the year Plato died is not too easy with the loci system but with the major system its a doddle ( picture a plate being broken by a FoRK, 847 BC. Or Pythagoras - (picture a pie with thick crust was made by ReBBeCa 497 BC)
Also the phonetic system is, in my opinion, also superior to the Dominic system as you can generate images on the fly instead of having to have a stock of names. It is easier to deal with repeated numbers in a sequence as you just make a new word instead of repeating the image of a person in the sequence. Each to their own though. Hey Harry, I've been reading some old digitised books from the 1800s on google books. Some by Major Benowiska himself. He mentions that he learned the system off a Dr. Cook, you ever heard of him? He also said his father was fluent in 18 languages and that he was sent to university to study medicine at 13, not sure how much of all that is true though Thanks, Sea
I love post its

Seamagu, both the loci and major each have their own applications... strengths/weaknesses. I wouldn't memorize a number with the Loci. It makes no sense. If you prefer the major to the dominic that's your choice. No need for us to argue the pros and cons.

I have a Harry Lorayne memory book somewhere, but I don't remember where I left it. But I do recall it was quite good and useful, like anything else, when applied as instructed.

Mr. Harry,
I shared this in another thread at some point a month or so ago, but I read your book (The Memory Book) like a sponge when I was 10 years old. I don't think it is an exaggeration to say that the book changed my destiny. I don't "remember" everything I learned, but the book not only made my memory better, but I learned at an early age that my brain was a tool that could be sharpened. Rereading the previous sentence, I don't think it expresses what I am trying to say. It opened a veil to an idea that once witnessed, could not be unseen from that point onward. At any rate, I know it sounds corny, but that one book literally influences how I think about thinking 30 years later. I think it is cool that I get to even give you this message.

By "major system" do you mean the peg system? I love the peg system. I have been using Harry's or Roth's versions with minor changes to the visuals for years. I have also come across some other methods that have been helpful. The world of super memory is fascinating. My memory is especially bad, I have trouble naturally remembering things due to brain surgery, but I can memroize a magazine and everyone's name in a group because of Harry's original "the memory book".
For example, Going around the table at a gig last night was Chris, (I always peg this name to a friend with good teeth) Lilly, (easy as it's a flower), Lauren (also pegged to a friend), Garry (cooper, pictured swauve), Jolie (pegged to dolly patrons song..I'm sure you can guess the image), Chloe (picture an actress), etc... They work as long as you take the moment to get them. You should be able to generate your pegs for at least a hundred things, gets a bit harder after a hundred. And if the image doesn't work for you pick something that does, for 3, Noah never worked for me so I use heN. Have fun with it... Great work as always Harry!

Too complicated to explain here. But I agree that his memory books are some of the best out there.
